Merc 115 problem

1st day out and had to be towed in! Initially the motor kept cutting out but when we got out into the water it ran fine all day. Then out of nowhere it would start but when we put it in neutral it would shut down. We could see gas leaking out. wondering if we can fix this without dragging it to the shop. It was fun while it lasted. This is the boat with the front gas tank (that by the way does have a vent) .Thanks.

Almost sounds like a stuck float and to much fuel was shutting it down.
Pull the plugs one at a time and see if they are wet.
