My first boat, What Was Your's?

Recently I was reading a post on one of HD's threads about how are dads are responsible for all of us being boat addicts, anyway I thought I'd share this with you guy's.

This is my 1985 Lund w/25 Yamaha that my dad bought me when I was 7, I still have it and she runs as good as the day he brought it home, I spent much of my youth in this boat, when I was about 10 with the motor tilted up a bit my dad clocked me beside his boat at about 37mph

Here is a pic from this last summer of me taking my 8 month old son for a ride in his car seat and another pic after I gave it a fresh coat of paint, I can't find the pic of the new paint job from the side, daughter probably deleted it.

So tell me, what was your first boat?

First boat was my mate... I had a motorcycle for sale and a guy wanted to trade a boat for it. I passed on the trade, but the thought of it stuck in my mind. I did quite a bit of research untill I settled on a checkmate. Originally I wanted to find a little predictor, but came across this exciter for sale in W. MI. I went up and bought it after a lake test... I hadn't ever really driven a boat untill I bought my mate. Its a good way to get hooked, though. Dad had a big Fourwinns horizon when I was little for a couple of years, so I was familiar with boats, but I never even considered owning one untill that guy wanted to trade me for my bike. At one time I was waayy into bikes and had a bunch around here- now I just have my dirtbike and I'm waayy into boats, funny how things change.

Day I bought it:

My first was a 1976 Ski Nautique with a factory 351 Homan Moody engine orange with white seats. The engine starting useing oil after a season and I pulled it out. I then learned the boat was designed to push the bow down. And any speeds over 60 mph would only lift the back up and become dangerous. So I loss intrest and parked it, and I still have it.

1971 14' Sidewinder with a 65 evinrude:thumb: Remember the throttle and the three push down buttons Forward -- Nuetral -- reverse:bigthumb: She was red metal flake with a silver metal flake strike and black interior.
Remember the 6 gallon gas tanks that use to bounce all over!!!

Being as old as you are I would have guessed the wooden raft that you, Huck Finn, and Tom sawyer used to float around on!!:rof:

The VERY first was a 14 ft lund with a 7.5 Evinrude. I begged and begged and when I was in 9th grade we got the Rinker Tri Hull with a 75 hp Johnson Stinger. The boat had been used in salt water a lot so the trailer was completely rusted out. 2 yrs later I traded my first car...a 1980 Subaru Stationwagon with 240,000 miles and so much rust I couls see the road throught the floor...for a sandblast job and paint job on the trailer. I did everything to that boat. Replaced the floor (very poorly I might add) replaced the seats, new cushions in the bow, new steering...the works...all on a shoe string budget. I got the new seats as a reward for getting an A in calculus. My uncle was an upholsterer and he made the cushions as a gift. I got the steering by telling my mom I couldn't give rides to her family because the boat wasn't safe ;), I used OSB for the floor and put enough cheap carpet and glue over the top I probably cost myself at least 5 mph. :shakehead: Hindsight being 20/20 that boat was a total P.O.S. But I was SOOOOOO proud of that thing!!! I was the coolest.:D

10 foot cougar cub tunnel hull with a 45 evinrude that would actually pull a (light) skier. Except when the skier went to the side. Then it was the boat getting pulled.

My first boat was a 1956 aeroglas, i bought it from friend of a friend and it still had the original plastic over the seats... he inherited it from his grandparents who bought it new, and shortly after he went off to war or something.. cant really remember the story, but it ended up sitting in thier gargage for over 40 years.

it really is a like new 50 year old boat, and it runs like a top.

My first boat was a sail boat, used 14ft Kolibri - $300. I was 15yrs old and had learned to sail at summer camp. My buddy's father had a cabin at a local lake and a 14 or 15ft Peterburo Trihull with a 70hp Johnson. Thats what I leard to ski behind and drive.

My first Power boat was the Eluder, I knew I was buying it as soon as I saw it. I'm a sucker for anything that looks Faaaast.:thumb:

my father in law as a matching 115 mariner on his 89' invader
That motor only has a touch under 40 hours on it!!! Dad replaced it in the late 80's because the original 100 merc lost compression. It was 3-4 years old when he got it in the crate from the dealer.

Sheeeesh!
If I'd a had this one, I'd a quit looking, looks like the colors of Justincase's boat:drool:
Rob
Thanks for the pics.
I believe its the twin also. The bad thing was that someone cleared it and did a bad job on it. The flake on the top was so burnt that most of it turned silver. I ended up painting the bottom a dark blue pearl. That was as far as I got on it before buying my 86 enchanter and selling it to a guy in northern KY:thumb:.
