my first checkmate

Hello, I am 14 years old and live in Louisville, Kentucky. I bought a 1984 checkmate eluder last summer. My father's first boat was a retired 15ft checkmate raceboat he bought almost 40 years ago. We were at the shop where my dads boat (sadly not a checkmate) was getting new engines installed for the restoration, and saw the checkmate checkmate for sale. It was a one local owner, with everything original besides engine, including even all the canvas. I installed new autometer gauges, and had the interior redone by a friend who redid the interior for my dads boat. We had the engine rebuilt this winter as well. The boat has an 84 235 evinrude with boyesen reeds, and I found used xp heads, and velocity stacks. This is my first post, and I just felt like introducing myself, and are happy to join the checkmate family:D

Right on and welcome to the board. We are going to have to see some pictures of that bad ride of yours. Keep us posted with the numbers that monster is going to run. Have fun.

Thats is a lot of boat for 14years old. Seet time is what ya need on that for sure. Be csrefull and welcome. Aaron

Thanks for the welcome! I will try to post pictures, but I dont have access to a digital camera, so i'll try to get a disposible w/ exposures on a disc. I wasn't expecting my first boat to be this much boat, but it was an unusually good deal, and my since it took us over two years to restore my dads boat, it was well worth the money especially considering if we had rented a boat as many times as we boat in the summer. Yeah, the more the seat time the better. It took me awhile to feel comfortable in it at higher speeds. I had driven larger performance boats for years when I was younger, but this checkmate is way different, and so much more fun:banana:

Thanks, I don't have funds available now after an unexpected engine rebuild recently:o , but have entertained the idea of modifying it, or removing it and filling in holes. Before the rebuild it would consistently turn a 24 turbo to 67-68 at 6100 (gps verified). With the reeds, xp heads, and velocity stacks, I tried switching to a 26 raker, but aren't quite getting the rpms I expected, so am not sure of what she'll me running yet with the mods.

Thanks alot for kind remarks, I loved that color scheme when i first saw it, but would hate to have to make a repair to it and match it:D

Do you have a jackplate on it? how far is the propshaft below the pad keel?
The raker's like to run high and lots of trim. You might think also about a water pressure gauge.

have jackplate, and water pres.gauge. plate all up, and neutral trim the center of propshaft is maybe 2in.below pad. Can trim it up untill most of l/u is outta water.

Yeah, they dont make too much stuff for the crossflows anymore. I was able to find a rare used set of landnseas velocity stacks though. Anyone familiar with installing their louvers? Where is best place to install them on engine? Thanks
