Need Merc controls. Anyone got a Mercury control setup laying around? Needs to fit a mid 80's XR2 and be about 14' or longer length.

Thanks addgasgofast. I'm not sure how much a control box and cables is worth used. I'm just starting to research pricing...........

JW I will have some factory take out merc pre rig flush controls from 05 1850's, I think dealer net is around $300. We got a great deal on a bunch of Yamaha H.P.D.I. 150's so we will be changing on a couple of in stock units

Thanks CM Fargo. Looking for a good used set, in the $100+ range. While I'd love to buy new, this project boat only deserves good used. Do you have any used Merc controls laying around the place?

Jw, I am pretty sure I can fix you up I will look around and let you know. We just de-rigged an old merc 65H.P. I think it had newer controls I will probaly get rid of the motor with controls for 500.00 or the controls only for 75.00.

HEY JW, IF THAT MID 80'S XR2 IS A MERC 150 XR2 FOR THE STREAM YOU'RE RESTORING, YOU WILL LOVE THAT LITTLE 2 LITER MOTOR!! THEY ARE LIGHT, NEVER BRAKE, AND SING LIKE A SEWING MACHINE ABOVE 6000 RPM!!!

Yep, mid '80s 2.0 liter XR2. Oil injection removed, exhaust can removed, relieved exhaust with 2-size bigger jets. 2:1 lower unit. Not planning on going above 6,000, I want to keep this thing together for a long time!

CM, I'm not sure a 65 motor will have the same hook-up as a V6? Power trim/tilt, throttle, shifter, safety cut-off, tachometer?

JW... sounds like the motor has a few good tricks so far...keep going!

Just mildly build that 2.0L

200 tuner...
Mill the heads .050"...
Velocity stacks...
Boisen reeds...
Run premium gas (92-93 oct)...
Run good synthetic oil at 40:1 ratio...

That thing will SCREAM & FLY to 7000+RPM all year long!!! My buddies pulled near 250hp@7200 on a land & sea dyno...

He must have pulled the stock cast pistons and installed forged to run that rpm?

JW... those stock cast pistons are safe to at least 7000! Remember, a 2.0L has smaller bore and less piston weight than 2.4L and 2.5L.

His was on a STOCK shortblock! He ran it for 3 years that way (and ran it HARD!)...ZERO problems, sold it and as far I know... still running strong... by the way, it was on a 17' Hydrostream Vector (painted flat-black), a real roach, but ran near the mid 80's! Jim.

Hey JW, I checked on cont. box. I have a real nice merc./fact. box. With harness to motor and the trim pump. Trim button in handle(some had no trim button, if motor had no power trim). Wires and box are unmolested. Only have 1 control cable it is 13'6" long measured barrel to barrel. I set-up a lot of XR-2 motors back in the day. Put them on checkmates,CVX-16's, Bajas and vectors and did the set-ups on them for people in the flint area. They are a great motor and respond well to mods. Later, addgas.

P.S. JW you are correct that the eng harness for an old 65hp in-line 4 cyl won't fit to your XR-2. The control box came with a motor that I had back in 1982. Motor is shown in the may Hot Boat Mag. pg.30 item #10. I had 2 of these on a 21' Baja. I used diff. controls so box is like new. Later, addgas.

So the control box and harness you have available WILL fit the XR2? IF so, how much do you want for it?

JW,yep it will fit your XR-2. It is the same control box that motor would have come with from the factory. You make offer on box, harnesses and the cable. Call me at (989)422-6065. Later, addgas.

JW,what up with the controle box. Would like to get it out to you so you can put it on the vector and get ready for wamplers or ?. Later, addgas.

Hi addgas! I had sent you a PM with my e-mail addy looking for digital pix. Do you have any pix of the control box? Sounds like it's new anyway, I'll give you a call today.
Thanks!
