New to Checkmate from South Florida

New member
Been checking out this site and love the way everyone comes to the assistance of each other. So amazed at the high level of knowledge and expertize. We are in Hollywood Florida where we have the blessing of year round boating with tremendous and scenic destinations. Currently we have a beautifully cared for 1989 Maxuum 281 with recently rebuilt twin 350's and top speed around the 70's. I will post some photos as soon as I figure that out too. I look forward to being part of this community and hope to hear from some neighbors to meet on th ewater.

:welcome:Easiest way to post pics is to copy and paste from an image hositng site like photobucket. I also copy and paste from facebook.

Welcome to the forum Sea Y Ohh.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the Max --- havn't seen to many of them recently in the forum.

I'm up in the N East of NewEngland so I'm quite jealous of your beautiful year round boating down there in Fla :(

:welcome:
Got a CM in mind?
Was in hollywood 2 years ago, stayed at Richard's Motel.
My brother lives in hallandale (Dale village)

Matbe a dumb question...

Wasn't sure what area to put this dumb question so here goes...
where does the "drain hole" in the cabin go to? I cannot tell where the water is coming from (or where it drains to) but/when it backs up in the cabin. Owned many pwc's for years but this is first boat, hence my ignorance. transom plug removed regularly and very little water there but I'm wanting to better understand the cabin drain hole issue to avoid any problems. Had the boat about three months and want to keep it mint like it's been kept. thanks everyone!

Welcome to the obsession! that sounds like a nice rig you have. Maxxims are pretty sweet. Cant wait to see the pics!

Not a dumb question....
However, I myself am not familiar with the Maxxum, the drain hole may go directly to a through hull exit hole or it may release into the bilge.
try squirting the garden hose in the drain hole see where it goes.
Unless somebody else chimes in with an answer.

Good luck

Also, keep in mind you may still have water in the hull of the boat even after removing the hull plug and draining ---- sometimes you need to tip the boat up at a steep angle to drain ALL the water out from the forward part of the hull {where the cabin maybe draining}

:welcome:
How much water are we talking. Is the hatch or windows leaking?
You shouldnt be getting enough water in the boat to have water in the bow area. My bow plugs drain right back to the bildge.

Thanks to all for the welcomes. No leaks. Plug removed at ramp. about 3-5 gallons removed from the drainhole. Does not seem to drain into the rear bilge. A real head scratcher for me....and others too it seems. Maybe someone willl chime in with the low down on this one. thanks to all.

Always liked the Maxxums, cant wait to see some pics, they were
one of my favorites. Dont get to see one very often any more.
Welcome.
