Nose cone/engine height/ water pressure

Just read the article above about nose cones on heavier type boats. I am doing an exciter and was planning on putting a cle on it. Sounds like its not necessary or the best idea. So what are you guys running for height and how are you keeping water peressure? When i pulled the motor off, the pad was about even with the 4th hole down on a mercury lower unit. Thats about 4 1/2 inches below the center of the propshaft. Way low to me. i added 6inches of setback so how high should i start? i was planning on about an inch below for starters, but without a lwp, will i get enough water? i know trial and error will decide the answer, but anybody got any ideas? I have a water pressure gauge i can monitor. Also am planning on using a 24 chopperII, but may need a through hub instead. Thanks
