whats the best way for me to tell if the motor has been rebuilt ?.....reason im asking is because there is an hour meter installed on the dash, and its reading about 1/10th hours, and after looking around a bit ive noticed what appears to be "new" gasket sealant squished out between the water pump and block...also around other areas of the block i know those are tell tell signs of at least a water pump replacement, but the hour meter has really got me thinking....also some of the motor mount bolts are not all the way in.......also there is a pump looking thing at the left rear of the motor when looking at it from the front, with what looks like hydraulic hoses going to the motor mounts, wich appear to me to be some kind of hydraulic cylinder mounts, what the heck is this configuration and whats its purpose ?

You have an omc stringer drive.. denoted by the big rubber boot on the transom.. the hydraulic pump you are talking about is your trim pump.. this system is different than any other... your drive does not trim... and should never be run with the drive up.. you'll tear the gears up that drive the lower unit.. your engine trims up and down.. your tilt mechanisim is electric.. and you should see something like a half moon gear on the drive.. another note.. your shift is actually electric.. wires run thru the transom. and down into the lower unit.. so be careful not to damage them when you (if you) pull the unit to change the raw water pump. hope that helped a lil.
