Placing a depth Transducer on transom of a Pulsare?

I was just wanting to know if anyone as put a transducer on there transom for depth and water temp. Lowrance has a unit that can do both, I think it is the 3800 series. I just don't know about drilling through the glass to attach, plus it would not be very good looking. OldSchool

if you don't like the transom you can always do a thru hull - that is if you like drilling holes in the bottom of the boat!

At first I went with an in-hull transducer, but before I installed it I did some more research. I found that some in-hull transducers have trouble shooting thru the hull with any accuracy because of different materials used in hull construction. The correct way to install an in-hull transducer is to cut thru the inner fiberglass and the core, then epoxy the transducer to the inside of the outer fiberglass hull. Then pour epoxy to back fill and seal.

Four holes in the transom looked like the way to go so…I went with a transom mount transducer. Here’s how it looks:

I used 1” stainless steel screws and flat washers. Measure your drill bit and put a piece of masking tape on it so you don’t drill in to far. Countersink the holes before you try to screw the screws in or you will crack the gelcoat around the hole. Pre-thread the holes and make sure that you get the sealer into holes. Put plenty of sealer on the holes and mount the brackets. Wipe off the sealer that squishes out.

Hope this helps.

How does it work at speed? My dad had one on his bass boat and it sucked in anything but perfect conditions. But that was a LONG time ago and I'm sure the technology has come a long way since then.

that has everything to do with location. i was very careful putting my dads transducer in (transom mount) and have had no problems reading at speed

If I'm reading correctly, the Mercury Smartguages have a transducer (transom mount) that can do water temp, depth, and hull speed. Mine only does temp and speed, if I'm right, I would like to buy the triple function transducer. Hope it mounts in the same holes, if I'm right.
