porpusing at mid throttle

Hey all,
I just finished putting a detwiller hydraulic jackplate with hydrodynamics 6 to 8 inch extensions on my 2005 2100br pulsare and was out cruising in it and noticed that there is alot of mid range hop in it i can drive through it but the wife is constantly compaining either about the hop or that i am going to fast what i was wondering is with 12 inches of set back on a 300x promax should i be looking to run my engine higher to help with the hopping or lower or should i move the motor back to 14 inches of set back i am running a 24 rev 4 prop at 6900 rpm really havent had much time on water since the new plate and extensions were put on do to engine failure but will have it back up and running in a couple weeks and was looking for some insite as where to start ounce i am back on the water

Thanks

All you can do is test it with different props and engine heights. Try a Tempest prop, see what that does. My Pulsare never porpoised with a worked 23" Tempest and 10" setback.................

Bravo 1,

I currently have 14.5" total setback on a Pulsare....with a 28 4-blade Trophy it won't porpoise at all.....with a 29 Tempest it will porpoise at mid-range like you say. Goes away with more throttle like you said, or, jack it down, and trim in and it will stop bouncing.

BTW, the Tempest is my fastes prop....although the Trophy has better hole shot, midrange, and overall handling.

Hey guys,
I will do more testing ounce the motor is back on it but do you all think that more hieght is needed to help the hopping, what is your propshaft hieght Craig. I do have a trophy and a tempest that i can try ounce the motor is back so will do that as well

Thanks

You should try a ventilated Bravo I prop you'll love it for cruising around. It wont be the fastest prop in your line up but the ride, handling, brakes, and mid range punch are great. As for the porposing do like the other post said trim the motor down and it will go away.

I went to 13" this year on my Starliner and it started to porpoise at slower mid range. It is worse if I lower the motor. I can trim down and stop it, but then I am pushing too much water. Tomorrow I am going to drop it back to 11" where I was before, and had almost no porpoise. (The extra 2" setback didn't gain any top end anyway.)
