Sound System

Howdy all, I really need to get a sound system in my Eluder!!! I am thinking of the deck-less route and just using an MP3 player. I really don't know where to start! What are some decent brands and models to look at as far as amps, subs, and speakers? I would rather this be fairly cost efficient to boot! Can 1 amp run the speakers and sub? Or would I need 2 amps?

well in my enticer

i have a nice pioneer head unit (not shure of the model)
2x 6.5" JBL
and 2x 6x9 JBL marine speakers all in seperate speaker boxes
and a sony 600 watt amp

Its very loud!

I wouldnt even think of putting a sub in my boat
due to the already amazing performance of my current setup

not to mention the charging system on your motor is designed to run power amps in the first place, 2 of them might be too much load on the system.

To go that route though youd have to rig up a dual battery system like on a bass boat, I would at least

Hmm.... if I could get away from having to have a sub that would be great! I could always add a powered bass bazooka later I guess right? Don't most amps have an output channel for a second amp?

So I would need a decent amp, some speakers, and a RCA to mic jack cable for the MP3 player. As long as I take care of my battery and don't run th e stereo for too long my marine batt will be ok right?

actualy when i got the boat it already had the system in it
but i rewired the whole thing because the wires were hanging EVERYWHERE
and it looked like crap.

i know you can buy the boxes
you could check online or at a local car audio shop

i know my amp was about 100 bucks
and the 6.5s run about 80 bucks for the pair
the 6x9s are a little bit more money

Ill take some pics tonight of how i have everything mounted

that clarion amp puts out some serious power
80 watts rms per speaker
i think the JBLs handle 65 watts and my sony puts out 55 watts rms
its cool that it is a marine amp, mines just a regular car amp.

I have Sony CD/Tuner with an input for your MP3 player, and 2 Bose 131 Marine speakers I put in last winter. I think I would personally add two more of them before I would add an amp. They aren't super loud like a wake tower or anything, but they sound pretty good. I've really liked the Sony receiver.

My entertainer has a Pyle system. CD/tuner with wired remote and 1000 watt amp.
A pair of 8" speakers and a 12" sub. Sounds great but I dont like the way its mounted. The previous owner just set it on the floor under the helm dash and the wiring is terrible. I have to strip it all out one day soon and install it right. It does sound great though and you can hear it at WOT.

The Clarion marine amps are great amps have never had any probs with them. The Sony Xplod stuff seems to do well in the marine enviroment also. It also seems that lots of people are getting away from a head unit in a boat and going the MP3 way you can by dash mounted jacks for them so you can put the where you want and it's one less big hole inyour boat and no eye candy for the thieves.

Most of the Car equipment should work fine for you. Placement of the speakers is key to good sound. Try and find spot where you can get a box environment when mounting the speaker. IE under rear seat. Any time you mount a speaker in the side pannel see if you can build some type of simple enclusure. In most cases a single amp setup will sound great and your outboard should not have a problem keeping up with the power unless you have an older 15 am charging system

My Setup
sony deck with iPod adapter
4 x Clarion marine 7.1 with seperate tweet's
2 10" Clarion marine Subs (facing rearward's under back seat)
Kicker 350 4 Channel Amp (2 channels for spearkers and 2 bridged to mono for subs)

hey i just remembered a great place to get all your equipment

www.pricegrabber.com

im going to buy a set of infinity 6x9s for my jeep from their
the local car audio shop wanted $160for them and online they are about $80

the infinity 6x9s are by far my favorite that i have heard so far
the 2 ways are good
but the 3 ways are worth the extra coin

cool. I bought one of those Clarion marine amps..... As far as boxes, do you mean speaker boxes like pictured above?
