Starflite with a carbed 260 setup?

I am replacing my blown 2.4 200 with a fresh 260 with some big bore carbs this spring. The 260 has cut heads (140 psi) and some light work on the exhaust chest. With my 2.4 I was turning a 24 pitch 3 blade at around 5800. The holeshot was not very good, but had some nice midrange power. What prop should I be looking at for this lightly warmed over 2.5?

when i went from my 200 to a 260 i ended up running the same prop because the 260 could turn in the 7000 rpm range. cant remember exactly where it was though!
check into what the rpm range is you may be in the same situation too

i was running a 23 tempest plus on my enchanter

A carbed 260?

I'ed just run that same prop to get a base line. then work from there.

It started it's life as a 260. My friend that retired from race boats had a bunch of new parts in his shop. And built me a nice powerhead. Balanced rods, sps rod bolts, top pinned pistons, and some cut heads that should give me around 140 psi. I don't have any fuel injection parts for it so I'm just going with some big bore carbs. I guess you could call it a 245.
My 2.4 did not turn my 24p Hoss Triton II as well as I had hoped. I am hoping that this 2.5 will be better.

I have 2 different 3 blade 24's and a 4 blade 22. I'm going to try all 3 of them and work from there. I'll talk to my friend when I pick up my powerhead and get an idea of what my max rpm should be to keep it all together. I really don't have any other props around to borrow so I was just hoping to get some ideas from guys that have run the same set up.

I run 65 at 7K with a 21P. I havnt really tried any other props. Im working on getting a 23 from ROSS pretty soon.

Its an older EFI Mod VP. They say its anywhere from 220-240 HP. Its basicly the father of the EFI Bridgeport. ;)

ahhh makes sense now! you should be able to tell about what the horse power is from your compession readings.....man i wish i could turn 7k:poke: you will spin a 23 threw the roof also:irked: i guess we will find out soon enough:drool:

I never spun anything other than a 21p lazorII on my 245 HP 2.5 for a best of 74-75 mph at 7500 rpms. But I never was never a top end guy.Ignore the EFI sticker.

I do not want to prop for max speed either. I'll be using it mostly for pulling the kids on the tube or skis. I like the cowl you have. Mine will be a sleeper this summer. I'm still using my old Black Max 200 cowl.

I have the same cover from one of my old Motors. It is not in as good of shape as Merc245's, but it would clean up well (Base plate is included, but has a small crack in the mounting location that could be epoxied).

I will sell it cheap if you want it.

That is also my 2nd cowl.Backed the first one into the corner of the garage.Bought this one over at S&F about 2 yrs ago.I was extremely happy with its condition. At winter time it gets put in the house and the old one gets put back on!:D Drove to louisville to pick up.:irked:But still cheaper than sending it.;)

I did alot of sking and tubing Too!

You can also pick up the cowling skirt also.U can find originals over at S&F they sell for apx.$100-$125 they do sell fast. Or at eagle one marine sells knock offs with non-factory strips for $90 ish I think. minesa a knock off.:D

Thanks for all the posts! I am picking up my powerhead on Monday. I hope to have time to install it next week. I can't wait to have my Mate back on the water!

I picked up my motor this morning after work. What size jets do you run in your carbs? I have 90's in it now. I think that should be fat enough for break in.

Sorry I know I can't help you.But My machanic just went thru my carbs and he knew everything about them. And he's a member here, Give him a call and I'm sure he'll be happy to ansewer any questions. His name is Kary at 517-7364523.

Good Luck and take your time breaken her in.And remember anything over 7000 rpms your basicly shorten the life of the engine x2. At least thats somewhat I've learned (if anything) over the past 15 yrs!
ps. Don't over prop her either, the starflite is a heavy boat for those mota's.Let her spool up!
