Steering cable(s)

New member
I have an 88 convincor 251 and the steering is excessively loose i know this is not good and would like to rectify this asap . I am looking for some good info on where to get parts and what all is involved i havent really looked into it so any info would be greatly appreciated. I know that when i put a 24 4 blade on my boat this weekend i became aware how dangerous this is in a hurry. I am new to this whole boating thing and really didnt know what was right feeling or not but now i definitely do know whats not. I have been told cables but what about the part the cable goes into ? Gimble bearing is noisy too will that cause loose steering? I really am looking for some good advice thanks in advance!

check your gimbal ring. on the top of your drive there are 2 nuts on a plate. see if there is play in the ring up top. have someone shake the wheel. look at the ring and see if there is some slop. if so you need a gimbal ring and that is a suck job!!!!!. if not call yourself lucky and get a teleflex steering cable kit to replace the hd ride guide if thats what you have??
