Tips wanted on reinstalling lower gear case on pre alpha

SUPERNUKES

Dropped the lower case and changed the water pump and impeller. I'm now having some problem getting it back on. I've read some tips such as make sure its in gear. But the shift mechanism in the upper has a housing that wants to drop down and I'm not sure if it should be held up or if I can let it drop down. It feels like it has a specific place to lock into. Or is it just a guide for the shift spline and supposed to drop down. Thanx in advance. Any other tips on this reinstall would be appreciated.

gods rule on an alpha ... the drive/ or/ lower unit comes off with the shifter in forward.. and yes.. that lil shift rod can be a nuicence.. with the assumption that your shift cable and all is in good shape, and operating normally...
let the shift rod drop down... slide the lower unit into the upper unit.. (make sure the old oring isnt still up in the upper carrier) if it is you'll have a real hard time getting that drive up.. and then you'll have a lube leak.. rotate the propeller (is supposed to be in forward).. untill the splines match.. (prop will stop moving).. slide it up a lil bit.. and line your shifter... nose pointing forward.. then push it up the rest of the way..

good luck hope that this makes sencse to ya!
