Trimate II Prop Advise

cbattles

Member
Since props are expensive, I'd like to get a prop out of the gate that I can at least live with - and maybe fine tune from there eventually.

I have a Trimate II and I'm setting it up with a 2.5 175 on a 6" jackplate right now.

I'm really not concerned with maximizing my top end but I don't want to be able to over rev it.

It has to have good bottom end for pulling tubes and skiers.

Prop Suggestions?

Thanks

I would think a nice 3 blade 21p would give you all the low end you need and still get you close to 58-60mph. I ran a 21p 3 blade on my trimate III and it could pull a anything I wanted. 3 tubes, slolom skier, fat chick, fat chick in a tube.. anything.
(I only towed the fat chick once though, my transom almost gave out. :):)

Thanks, I was worried about how high it would want to rev though. The old Merc 1500 on there was propped with a 21p 3 blade.

I was thinking that I might want to go to a 23p.

I think that the Trimate II is about 2 1/2 feet shorter than the Trimate III also....

I've got a trimate II with a v4 115 I run a 3 blade 21 and I'm topping out at 58 mph and my rpms are right under 6k. If you are putting a v6 on it I would think the 21 is going to over tach if we are talking about the same trimate II as mine thats only 16 and one half feet long you might want to go with the 23 pitch just to keep it from over taching and that v6 should pull anything a ski rope will hold lol hope this gives you some info on props

Yeah - mine is the 16.5' too. That's about what I was thinking.

I know that some of the guys on here with a similar setup to me are running a 25p, but I think that they're going more for top end.

I wonder how a 23p 4 blade would act?

I am sure you could turn the 23p 4 blade (trophy plus) without issue, and stll have the holeshot to pull tubes and what have you, Do you have a marina/prop shop anywhere close that will lend you a couple to test?

I'm sure if I worked with a shop on a regular basis I could get someone there to let me test something out, but I've never done much business with the shops in my area.

I just picked up a 24p Trophy Plus. We'll see how it goes.

Checked out the Merc prop selector app and put in all of the specs about my boat -- it's actually recommending somewhere in the 25p range even for acceleration being the primary concern -- so we'll see how it works out.

Thanks guys
