I have a 79 trimate II 16 foot 4 inches looking over this site i came across a factory brochure for 79 http://checkmate-boats.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/115
it says my trimate II is rated for a 140 and the boat weighs 900 pounds it came from the dealer with a johnson 79 140 V4. But the coast guard plate on the boat says its rated for a 150 that would be a V6. Im looking to buy a new evinrude motor either the 130 V4 or what i really want to put on it a new 150 V6. I have found that the 78 brochure ratings on the trimate II calls for a max hp of 150 V6 and boat weight of only 700 pounds for the boat. http://checkmate-boats.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/760/sortby/f/sorttime/9999/way/ascs What might be going on with the mixed figures on my boat and is it a good idea to put a new 150 on the boat, i have a jack plate on it also the dealer says go with the 150 haha its whats on the coast guard plate, but take the jake plate off. Checkmates new 16 foot boat is only rated for a 125 hp. I also have to keep in mind that 79 motors were rated at the crank shaft and now they are rated at the prop so i can see way 125 is the rating now. One other issue is the 79 140 i have weighs 310 pounds the new 150 weighs 418 alot more and the 130 weighs 390, so they do weigh alot more and will have alot more power. It was a very very well kept boat, its all stock wood in it and has NO stress cracks on the transome.
Guess I would like some of your ideas on what motor i would be most happy with (lol i want the 150 lol). And whats up with the different rating in the brochure and my coast guard plate rivited to the boat.
