Trophy vs. Trophy Plus

Anyone know the difference between these two? I'm considering a 24p 4 blad and I see alot of trophy plus's around. I have no idea what the difference is.

While I'm asking, anyone compare those to a turning point or the TR04 (I think that's right).

Thanks!

Trophy Plus has PVS vent plugs and thicker blades. They say the thinner blades of the earlier model Trophy sometimes broke off. Still, puriests look for the original since they are 1-2 MPH faster.

Thanks (again) Mark. So I guess I actually have a 26p trophy plus since it has the PVS holes in it. I didn't know that...

I'll report on Zach's 5 blade and I may even pick up a 24p trophy/plus. I will probably hang on to the 26p for the fantasy run to 70 mph when / if i get a slider... I don't know. $750 worth of props is alot to have on hand (assuming each is worth ~ $250 each on the used market). Maybe I'll try to trade the 26 for a 24 trophy.

Off topic: OH man - my poor Pen's - what a horrible 3rd period!! I can't believe they got that goal... Detroit is not a good place for a Pens fan right now. I root for the wings unless they play Pittsburgh so I guess it's all good.

if you may be interested in getting rid of that 26 trophy plus p.m. me and let me know what you want! i may take it off your hands! thanks ross

what length is the boat? i guess that is the first question.... that will tell us what you need for setback!!!!!:cheers

I don't mean to steal the thread, but Ross I have a 26 Trophy Plus if you want it.

See my thread or send me a PM.

Thanks Guys,

Do you guys think I can get away with a 6" setback with my big heavy 3.0L?

How much top end do you get with that additional 6"?

I had a 5.5" on my sportfire and it really made it right bow-high. I know the effect will be less on a 21' boat (btw - same hull as your boat Ross - just a BR instead of CD). Plus, I think my exsting cables will work for 6"

Thanks,
Anthony

I don't think it will get you much. Maybe a little since you will be able to raise your motor more. You'll definitely see an improvement in the holeshot and the ride, but not much top end. A Starliner is a very different riding boat than a Sportfire...I know, I have both. 6" will not do much to lift that long heavy bow and reduce the wetted surface. Even with the 3.0L I would say you will need 10" to see more top end.

With 10", how does that boat sit in the water? Are the swim platforms under water?

I keep telling myself that I shouldn't care about top end - skiing, tubing and general handling are the priorities but wow - a 70mph boat would just be awesome

Is there any sense in starting with a 6" and adding spacers - or even another 6". Or should I really just start with a 10"??

The setback will not effect how the boat sits in the water. It will really only effect ride attitude while underway. I think you will be happy with 10" but if you do want to do it in stages start with 8" and then add 2" spacers. Anything less than 8" will not make any difference to your top end.

OK then - the search is on...I need a slider. I guess I'll start with an 8" er - maybe a 10". I'll probably try to get a ride on Ross's boat when we're up there next month to check out what his boat is like with all of that setback.

I had a short run with zach's 23p high 5 and it seemed to want to ventilate more than my 26p trophy - I'll check it out more tomorrow, today was not the day to test and tune. But I think you were (unfortunately) probably on the money Mark...

setback, setback, setback. That is all i can say about a starflite. I love my boat but they never balanced it right for top speed, either that or they planned on people having the heaviest motors on them i.e. 300 johnson V8. After observing many staflites and pulsares in action I think that a lighter bow may be one of the big differences, besides the pad and loss of the notch, maybe they just lost a couple hundred pounds up front. I have heard all kinds of rules of thumbs for setback like 12" plus 1 inch for each foot over 20' etc. I am currently at 13" and need more, had my prop worked and that helps some but ultimately it just needs to balance more to the rear. My fastest speed recorded was with 2 people sitting in the back seat and no body in the passenger seat.

Thanks guys,

I actually figured out that I have a 26p trophy (not plus) and will be buying a 24p trophy plus. Also figured out that pulling all 4 plugs totally out does NOT give you an awesome launch - it gives you pure ventilation!

2 plugs with the larger holes in and 2 out seems to work fine.
