V-Mate I restore

Hey Guys

So my V-Mate had to be redone. Floor was coming out and there was about a quarter inch play in the transom. Day one we took the motor off and separated the cap from the bottom. Today is day two and we removed the gunnels, bracing and transom. We just have to grind down the whole boat yet to rought it up for the new fibreglass.

Gas Tank

Currently I have been using portable gas tanks and they are a huge pain. I was wondering if I could somehow install a internal tank now that I have it all apart. Does anyone have any experience in what tanks work best?

I would be great if I could find a bow tank that would work. The only problem would then be that I have no way to fill it? I'm guessing I would then have to cut a hole in my deck to install the cap. Cutting into my deck would take a lot of convincing.

Anyone with ideas, anything at all. I'd be interesting in hearing what advice you may have.

Rick,
Here's a couple pics of my Enticer's tank. I think it was 14 gallons. Don't forget that there needs to be a vent line as well as the fill line for the tank.

Notice the black boxes on the floor. The back seat sits on these.

DropTop!

Nothing but good memories of bombing though Muskoka. Ya that tank looks like exactly what i need. Battery box on one side and the trim pump on the other side. 14 Gallons? that sounds pretty good. Did you still have room for a bilge pump behind it?

Update

So last fall we tried to get a jump on the restoration of my V-Mate. We took the motor off and separated the boat. This spring we hope to put it all back together and we have been trying to get as much done as we can but it's not quite warm here in Ontario enough to do epoxy yet. We did have one warm day and we epoxied two pieces of plywood together to make the required thickness of the transom:

We made a form to hold the two pieces to that they wouldn't slide around, epoxy is slick. Then we placed 5 gallon pails of water on the transom to give it a good squeeze.

Since we didn't have another warm day since, we turned our attention to doing anything else we could find to do.

We made a new battery box base:

Seat boxes:

And then we dry fitted the transom:

We also sanded the entire boat down with 80 grit and exposed all the fibres of the boat shell. Now we are just waiting for some nice weather to do a bunch of epoxy and put this transom in and put all this wood together.

New Rub Rail

We are having a hard time finding a nice replacement rub rail.
Anyone have any ideas? We tried Taco, Eagle aluminum and RubRails.com

Any other places I can try?

We have aluminum 1 1/4 " high rub rail with a vinyl insert.
