I have a V mate 16 ft with an 85 MERC.Going to upgrade it with a new etec 115. Its rated for 100 hp.Has anyone tryed different size motors on these.
Great site. I am also considering rebuilding the power head. Yes I am a mechanic by trade but havent worked on this engine yet, Mine is a 1977 with the 4 coil ignition but have 2 other spares with the distributor ignition. Can this 850 be souped up at all? Great handling boat, just want more speed LOL
Thanks

There really isn't much to get out of the ole Merc. I've seen these older boats with up to 175's on em but they are a handful like that, with proper setup a 115 would probably get some descent performance.

Thanks. I can get a new 115 etec for 8400$ from a friend who owns a dealership and thats a $3000 savings and great mileage. Probably the best way to go.
Walt
