whale tail?

My '78 predictor has an item caled a whale's tail on the lower part of the motor? Advantage? Disadvantage? Keep it? Toss it? In other words what is it for? Thanks

Lanny

It's for keeping the bow down on take-off. They can cause dangerous handling when at speed and in turns with the motor trimmed down. I don't like them.

whale tail

they are ok for their disigned purpose
they are to help the boat plane faster and stay on plane at lower speeds

if you put the trim down at w.o.t.you can see bad results

learn to trim the boat at whatever speed and activity you are doing

over trimming can be as bad as under trimming

not to get carried away

try the boat with it and then take it off and try the boat and see why they put it on

the diplomat that i had i put one on the old 140 and it helped but never needed it on the new 140

I was skeptical however I put one on my 1973 17' TRV with a 135 Johnson. Its made by SE Technologies, I don't know about the Sting Ray or Doel fin models but it definately helps keep the boat on plane and also helps stabilize the boat in rough water. It has not affected speed in any way. As otherwise stated, try it out with and without and see what you like better.
