Good Day Folks!

Been drivin' Checkmates for about 12 years, currently on my second Checkmate. Thought I would jump in on the forum.
I spend my boating time mostly on the Chesapeake Bay, trailering from Central Maryland.
No fishing off my boat but Trollin' is a plus:thumb:

Welcome! I read 'Chesapeake' by James Mitchner years ago and was so intriqued by the Eastern Shore that I had to visit. I drove all over the Eastern Shore one long weekend with the wife and daughter. Very friendly people! The little town of St. Micheals was out of this world!

welcome. what part of the bay do you boat on? I boat in the pasadena/baltimore area.

I set in at Sany Point and do the Magothy then Bodkin Creek I sometimes get to the Cheshire Crab. You probly seen my boat before...
I bought this one 2 years ago from a guy on Stony Creek. Reworked the motor since.

daren

Thanks Daren!

Cool Hotrod there.. I didn't know they put that motor in Mates... If its a Mercruiser (?) its got the same bore and stroke as a BBC 454!!! Bet she'll run all day on just a few bucks of fuel too. Cool combination.

Thanks for the welcome.

I used to go to St Michales all the time in the 90's with my ol' 20' Enchanter. I stopped going as it seems docking to frequent any of their restaurants became impossible. They only had 3 public slips at the bulkhead near the fuel dock. At one time, if you went to the Restaurants, the main dock there would let you use a slip for a few hours but when that stopped I quit going. Havent been there for years now...
I did and still do love exploring that area of the bay (actually it is south of a regon called the "Central Bay" and south of Claiborne(SP).) Lots of great places on the Chesapeake to explore.

Actually I know the last two owners very well. We all boat together. That is if you bought it from Joe K.
What happend to the motor? Or did you just need more power?
How about more pictures.

yup... Joe K. Sweet and comfortable boat.
On the first time out ever I got out of sandy Point. Made it as far out as the middle of the bay. Developed a misfire and scuffed a piston. Cracked Exhaust Manifold the cause. Never even overheated. No big deal though but did a piston and rings and a replacement manifold. Bad luck I guess as I worked on it in Joes driveway and got it runnin before I bought it and it ran fine then. Put 40 0r so hours on it since with no problems. I do want a 3.0 or a 3.3 litre injected motor in non race configuration though as I like to explore and tend to run long hours. I am considering selling my existing 2.5 or stuff it onto the back of a 16 footer for a river screamer.
I was considering a 300x or a yamaha 300. Theres guys goin 75 with this set up and good fuel consumption at lower speeds at the same time.

GEEEZZZZ whata rig... bet it pulls skiers like nothin'. How's the fuel consumption?

Hey Ken this is joe k. sorry to here about the piston. I knew you were intrested in a 300, Haven't found one yet huh. The boat looks good. Have you been in stoney creek last year. I thought I saw you by my house. Just wanted to say hay and maybe we can get together this year.

Hey Joe!

Came by the cove last year but didnt tie off. The boat is awesome. The 2.5 Race runs friggin' great. 6000 revs is smoother than... More to be had there too BTW. Anyways, I'm in no rush to get a 300 as I want but dont NEED one. I do however clock many hours on a motor so my Race engine is somethin I can put on a 16. 100+ like that. Even so as far as speed goes the way it is now runs like a BBC 4sure.

Man this rig is so much fun, best bang for the buck. Overnightin with my gal in this thing, no problem.
PM or Email we can get together
