stainless steel prop cleaner

ross

Well-known member
any secrets as to how to get junk off my stainless prop? tried never-dull and i think that would take approxamatley 1 year!

Wow...

I'm surprised the Nevr Dull was taking a while, it is pretty coarse. I use Mothers metal/aluminum wheel cleaner/polish on mine and it always brings it back to new. I guess it depends on what kind of gunk is on it. My dad remembers using Nevr Dull in the Navy and was surprised when he saw a can of it in my garage.

I've always used high rpms and surfacing heights to clean my SS props off :surf:

FLITZ is great stuff to. You can get it almost anywhere and use it on almost anything. If its real bad try a brillo pad (gently) and then FLITZ

Why are they called stainless then???? LOL

my mercury service rep told me its "stains less" steel not stainless steel. it is basically a low grade stainless as opposed to what your kitchen knives are. so it will rust and look gungy after awhile.

all of you keep this in mind- miratic acid!!!!!! just rub and all is like a mirror! took me about 15minutes! just remember to rinse it with cold water when you are finished!:bigthumb:

Prop-Wash

I can not wait to try the acid-I did the sopy sos pad but could not remove the small rust spots that are now appearing, my never-dull dried out tryed some Brasso in the gause but that did not work!!!

It's the differance between 304 stainless vs. 316 stainless which is use for marine applications or around areas with high salt content, ie. coastal regions. Most common is the 304.
