prop for my checkmate

http://detroit.craigslist.org/boa/695300238.html

looks like it has some work done.
i need a 24 pitch three blade and this fits the bill.
would this prop work well?? still produce bow lift? or is it a different type of prop completly. i dont have setback right now or a jackplate.

how many inches below the pad should i have the propshaft in general??

i have a 25 pitch 5 blade but cant turn it. it bogs my 2.5 200 down

please help this looks like a DEAL also will it fit my merc ? :poke:

Buy it and expierement with it. If it doesn't work good enough for you, put it on ebay and you'll get your money back.

It is hubbed for a Yamaha. Meanng it will fit your shaft but will not have a castle hub to lock it on. Yamaha uses a cotterpin. As far as the prop, not a bad choice for a Mate without a jackplate, but not with. I would look for one hubbed for a Merc.

I have a prop question I bought a 26 pitch Cleaver that was a Johnson prop a dealer had it re-worked and the hub was installed so it fits my 2.4 Merc, I had a machine shop do work to it so it fits great on my lower unit now, do I need the castle nut lock in the hub?? I wanted to know if that is the only way to lock it on???? I first tried a used 24 pitch chopper and spun the hub in it with a fresh power head.

I'm not sure on official set up but I had good performance with my last boat when I had the fin on the lower unit no more than 1 inch above the point of the V or the middle of the pad, it seamed to perform real well, at least for me it did.

Well, you need to have something to lock your prop on. You can drill a cotter pin hole in your shaft...kind of tricky. Or, if there are some splines still exposed (probably not, if it is an OMC hub) you can throw a Mercruiser crown washer on and then a tab lock washer.

Thanks I'll check it and see which will work better. ~smiles~

That looks like it is a Ballistic. I had one a while back and it worked great before I got a jack plate and it was very fast.

That is not at all a "surfacing prop". I stopped running my ballistic when I got a j/p because it would only cavitate if the propshaft was any highier then 5 inches below the pad.
