merc parts

Just found out my gears are all pitted so i guess i need a lower for my 2.5 xri so if you have one how much thanks Grant.

Hi i think just stock will work as i haven't got the motor on the boat yet have being trying to figure out the year of the engine i bought as the vin #doesn't match the cover etc found stamp date on block it says 10/29/90 so will your lower work the guy that took mine apart told me big bucks to fix it so thats where i thought i would look myself for gears and get someone to put them in thanks grant.:shakehead:

The date code only that is stamped into your engine block is indicitive of a Mercury factory replacement powerhead assembly that had replaced the original assembly (the one with the serial number that matched your lower or whichever lower it was originally mated with) while still under factory warranty. That how I have a 2.4 200 that has a production date of 12/93 when 2.4's were no longer offered in 1993. I too, have a warranty replacement powerhead.

Crazycanuck, Like Jallen said, your powerhead could have been changed. What year is your motor suppose to be?. With that info. I will be able to tell you if the gearcase I have will fit. I do believe that it will, I just want to be 100% shure for you.

where is the best place to post new engine add gas and go

gas and go tell me the best place to try and move a brand new old stock 7.4 L GM hi perf 1992 marine engine?? it was purchased from u s marine in gallapolis ohio before they went out of business. the xr after the serial number according to a mercruiser dealer demands the engine was manufactured in 1992 and the horse power was from 1980's 330hp then more horse power as the years got newer but at around 380 hp the space on the computer did not state the horse power in 1992. the engine has been stored coated with wd 40 and turned with a socket on a regular basis. the engine patina color is original not painted black like mercruiser after being sent to the boat building company it was never painted a differnt color and still has the original stickers 454 and stamped on the engine in several places hi perf tested letter H and many other stamps along with the serial number 105146XR on the block close to the timing marker. thanks write me back if you can froboy7214@yahoo.com my very first boat was a 16 foot checkmate with a 120hp short shaft merc out board on the ohio river in Huntington wv

thanks for the help

froboy, I would post it here on the Checkmate forum. That motor is used in a lot of the Checkmate boats. You could also post it on the web-sight called "off-shore only", it is a sight for larger boats that are "car motor" powered.
