New guy here...boatbuilder from another Co.

Hi guys,
I'm a boat builder from another company. Don't really want to say which so I can speak freely. Suffice it to say we are not competitors.

We build luxury performance boats from (In our plant) 25ft Bowriders to 30 Ft. Cabin boats. All inbd/sterndrive. Pretty much exclusively Mercruiser or Volvo Penta propulsion.

Just wanted to see what is going on around the industry...I know things are kinda sketchy for us

Did you sign a disclosure at you place of work denying access to boating websites??:shakehead:
This is a close knit group here because we all share one thing in common or love for a specific boat -- Checkmate!!:bigthumb:

I mean we do not know all to know about each other but you are the first who said they had to keep where they work a secret. We even had a thread here where we all described what we do for a living;)

Sorry for the interogation but it seems like a strange first post. Thats comming from one of the strangest members on here.:eyecrazy:

You're probably right. And no I didn't sign any kind of agreement. I'm cautious (some call it paranoid) by nature.;)

I work for Regal Marine. The Valdosta Georgia plant to be exact. I'm officially and engine specialist but I actually rig out the entire sump area and usually a good bit of the rest of the hull. Not to mention getting bounced up and down the line to do deckset and some final riggin on occasion.

We also have a sister site Endless Boating that is a all-brands site. If you decide at some point that you would like post some Regal info or content over there, let me know and I'll work with you to get it posted. I'm sure it would make a nice feature that many would enjoy.

I was so close to buying a Regal the 25 express cruiser. I bought a Soutbay Pontoon boat instead.
They make a beautiful product -- My dealer was Sterling Marina on Lake Wallenpaupak Pa.:bigthumb:

I'm kinda new to this whole boatbuilding thing. I've only been working for Regal for about 5 years. I'm a retired aircraft mechanic (USAF) but the technology is similar in a lot of respects.

I tripped on this sight and thought it might be intersesting to see what's going on around the industry.

How many of the people here are builders working for checkmat?

I looked at some of the build photos and it's a real impressive looking operation. Also very pretty boats, very well finished and rigged out from what I could see.

The Checkmates look a little more hard edged and aggressive than our boats. I think ours are more toward the luxury side of the deal. I mean they perform well, but they aren't race boats by any stretch.

A number of the crew from the factory are members here. :)

Some choose to make themselves public like Kip as one example, but many others have chosen to participate, but just without revealing that they're actually employees. ;)

If you are talking about the 2565 that one is built in Orlando. If you are Talking about the 2500/2550/2520...Those are the ones I build here in Valdosta. All great boats.

You'll like this site - very friendly and active. I don't know too much about Regals other than a good reputation and very nice looking boats.

I can tell you from recent searching that there aren't forums like this one for all boat brands. I can't find a good stingray forum to save my life. The only real one is moderated by the factory and you can't get in unless you own one! Seems like they're missing a bit of a marketing opportunity.

Regal had a chance to join the high performance boat builders when they joined forces with Steve Step and Velocity back in 1986/1987. They had the original Velocity 22 and Velocity 30 foot molds and began building boats under Steve Step's supervision. They also developed the new 230 Velocity which was a 22' Velocity bottom with a new "Euro" styled top deck and molded swim platform. Sea Ray's 22' Pachanga was the closest thing to a 230 Velocity but could not come close to the performance of the Velocity. It was one of the best small I/O muscle boats ever built and also had a good sized cabin for a 23'4" boat. The joint venture failed when Steve Step realized the Quality and material used for the interior work was not up to his standards..and they began laying up the hulls with inferior glass work. He pulled his molds in the early 90's and wound up in a court battle with Regal over the name "Velocity" for years. During that battle, Steve Step began building his boats under the name "Thoroughbred". He eventually got the name Velocity back and the boats are built in Sanford Florida. There are still alot of Regal Velocitys running around!! Welcome to the site!!
 
welcome aboard....so tell us, with a lot of the boat builders in a tuff spot with whats going on..what are you seeing with regal ? what changes have they implemented to deal with the currant situation ? thanks Rob
