Not really. If you don't want to buy the proper lifting eye to removbe the engine which is easy and safe and just plain opld good, what you could try and do with the help of a couple of buddioes to hold the engine is in a nice concrete or gravel surface trim the motor straight up and down and shim underneathe the skeg with dimensional lumber and plywood, stand the motor on the skeg and unbolt it. You can then pull the boat ahead a few inches put the shaft in the motor, clean the transom of old sealant and apply new then bolt it back on. It's not too difficult if you have a toingue jack. I've done it before when the proper tools weren't available. Just be careful not to drop it on anyone.

If you are extremely careful you can remove the nuts on one side of the bracket then loosen the nuts on the other side to rotate the motor a few degrees to slide the shaft into the pivot tube. I would advise enlisting the help of a friend to help and make sure you don't get into trouble. An extra pair of hands can be a valuable asset.

As a back up stack some 2x's under the skeg to help support the weight of the motor before you loosen any of the bolts, especially if you do not have a beam to rig a comealong.

I'am glad we have good American know how! I was going to support the skeg tilt the trailer then remove the three bolts and try to swing the engine port side. Ho what is a good sealer for those bolts??? Thanks everone for the additional input.. Well get back to you after the week end, have to go camping in P.A. so I won't be able to see it it works. If not then I will be in the market for a lifting EYE!!!!

Use 3M 5200 sealant to prevent water infiltration.

As for a lifting eye you can substitute a 3 bolt "Y" shape puller.

I would advise against 5200 if you ever want to take it off again. 4200 is more likely what you want to use.

You should not use the y-puller with Mercury's. They strongly recommend against removing bolts from the flywheel.

My neighbors borther works in a boat yard and does work on the side, I'll check to see what he might charge to do it.... Eluder

Hydraulic steering installed

I did it!!! removed two of the port bolts and the upper starboard bolt, and the bottom one I left with a few threads on the nut and was able to install the support shaft--no big deal! The new steering is GREAT!!!!!

i just attatch 4 ratchet straps to my TOP and lift er up with a harbor freight 2 ton hoist i picked up for 120.00-very sturdy unit.

Engine Removal????

I had no choice due to the location at by beach house, and it was the best/safest way....It had taken me longer to route the hoses though.....Eluder
