Alpha One help

Hello again,

Now that the season is over I know what I need to do for next year. Turned out to be not a bad year except for the Alpha 1 shift interrupt system. Works sometimes sometimes it just stalls the boat.

I plan on changing the bellows and lower shift cable before next season. What is the proper way to set this up so it works properly? I'm tired of looking like an idiot getting in and out of docks. lol. The drive is connected to a 502 MPI engine. I know,"get a bravo one". For the kind of use that it gets I don't feel like it should have to be done quite yet. I drained the gear grease(oil) looked great no metal at all. Nice and clean.

Also, I do have the newer style shift plate assemble, just need to know which plate to use and how to properly get this thing working right. Is there anything else involved in making this function properly other than the cables and switch?

Thanks in advance,
Lee

You need to get a service manual and look up how to adjust the shift linkage, etc... you're tripping the shift interrupt when you try to put into gear. no big deal. may need a lower shift cable. use the search button in here and you can probably find everything with a little reading. Hope this is helpful...

thanks workin on it this weekend . its the same thing the cable had gotton a little water in it some how and it was hard to slide in an out . an stalling the engine. Cant wait to go for a ride. its getting up to 60 degrees here. waters cold 50 maybe. if i remember right you have a 350 in your bout to? I have a 17ft sportfire 1990.

Hey,
sorry for the long delay. I as well found a sticky shift cable with water in it. I found that the bellow had busted and hopefully that a new cable and bellow has fixed it. I just replaced the them hoping to get it in the water next weekend. I'm really excited to see how it works. It feels so much better by hand now that's for sure.

hey thats great. went out to test it works good. that was it. so I have this broken dip stick. where the stick broke off the handle part. so just the handle sticks in the hole. was running it pretty hard when that thing blew off. it hit the engine compartment so hard you heard at pretty much wide open. scared the @#$% out of me. found it in the bildge . but it was like a steam kettle, Which brings me to my next question. How are your valve cover vents done? Mine vent back into the carberator both of them. they steam pretty good to causing the engine to stall after running hard.
