Redneck AC

Forgot to update this,
I used it for the Dobbins Island trip. They make coolers to fit it but I routered out the top of a styrofoam one I had. Its a nice piece and runs quiet.
Bottom line it worked! Cooled the 251 cabin 10 degrees in less then an hour and kept cooling as the temp dropped. Opening the cabin door was like going into the ac.
I turned it off to sleep since it was nice out and I like haveing the door and windows open, but if it was a humid nasty night it would have stayed on.
I give 2 thunbs up for price and function.

I may have to try one of these... I was looking at those hatch cover AC units since I have a battery isolator and a 2000w inverter to put in my boat... I'm totally a prima donna when it comes to sleeping in hot and humid conditions

I notice you have a fridge in your boat. Do you also have a sink?

Gonna say yes sinse i see you have the side drain. Another option is to get a small house window ac and put on top sink so it will drain out thru sink. Also makes good pisser in middle of night.:shakehead:

Yup, got the fridge and the sink... I was totally unaware it drained to the outside of the boat though... Put me into a turbocharged EFI setup or a generator and I know everything, I'm totally new to all this boat stuff though

The hole on the side of hull in front of the drivers seat is the sink drain.
So i'm guessing you dont know if it works. Holding tank, pump and plumbing?
The fridge is ac/dc. i think we will be talking alot.:bigthumb:

LOL, most likely... I wasn't too worried about most of that stuff... for a living I'm a powergen engineer for cummins... I work on large multi million dollar parallel generator systems, and the switchgear and plc's that go with them so anything electrical troubleshooting and all is pretty easy for me (These systems are normally low or medium voltage... 480v to 13.2kv.. but all the controls are 24v DC) the mechanical workings of how all this ties into the boat though I know nothing about... literally never even looked at the stuff.. I just know that they're physically there :bigthumb:

You'll be fine then. Its all simple. I've never used the sink as a sink anyhow.
I have all the parts and they make for a nice fresh water rinse off.

Works out good for me then... means I got 2 other knowledgeable convincor owners around me LOL

Do you know Donny Bosley jr. by chance? He has a 25' convincor with a dart block... all black boat with red striping. He's the one that knew all the history of this boat for me.

No never met him.

You will soon then lol... My father just bought one of his Duster's... and I used to race with him alot. Big Mopar guys, has a 9 second dakota that was affectionately dubbed the stump puller by an over confident cobra owner saying he didn't want to waste his gas racing a pickup truck.... said cobra owner left with alot less money in his pocket that night :rof:

I'm always up too meeting new guys. Even more guys with fast boats, I'm always looking to learn something. Knowing this site watch someone will turn that gay.

I think I will get one of these for my truck. it is already really hot down here and I could turn it on about an hour before I get off work and have a cool truck to get into!

I dumped it about 24hrs later I guess. The water was still cold and would have still worked but i didnt want the water riding around with me. Would need a bag of ice per day to do the trick.

I looked at those back in the spring too, I didn't think it would do a whole lot. So I put the $40 in the gas tank instead. I might have to re-visit the idea now. Did you use a block of ice or a bag?
