Interesting Prototype.....

Cigarette has just unveiled its new 38 footer which the teamed up with a common partner (as of lately it seems) and have produced an all electric propulsion version packing 2,200 hp out of 12 electric motors. Electric motors can produce some amazing power with tons of torque but the limiting factor is always batteries. I can't imagine the amount of batteries to power a dozen motors at full power in a marine environment. I think a good diesel/generator hybrid setup may be a thing to consider in this application extending range greatly and probably lightening up the setup. I doubt this boat has much range as it sits now let alone the time to recharge all of that. I knew electric motors would end up in powerboats eventually, I just never imagined Cig would be one of the first to do it.

I wanna see what kind of numbers this boat will post up.

What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

This is how our Submarines work. I doubt they would use lead acid batteries as that technology is ancient but chlorine gas was always a big concern of ours if the electrolyte and salt water came in contact in a hot environment.

Well, I think there maybe a market "eventually" for an electric performance boat, but not yet --- and especially not in my garage/slip.

I am a fan of Cigarette boats but not of this one.

Until they can make an electric motor sound like a blown 725 engine, I'll stay with a gasser.

Yea, it just isn't the same without the roar of the engines.

After all, the only thing that sounds better than a big block, is two big blocks!

I bet it would about snap your neck at launch. Electric power is insane. A nice Bose system for sound would be the ticket . :thumb:

I read an article about a year ago saying that nano-technology is changing the charge capacity of capacitors. The idea is, a smaller lighter storage unit that will charge in the time it takes to fill your gas tank. We shall see.....

There claiming at least 100mph and 7 hrs to recharge with standard charging option. Faster charge times with added chargers. No word on how long it will run. I guess that depends on whos driving. Its one sweet boat but I dont want to sit on those seats on a sunny day.
