Floor throttle control

HI, if you are going to hook up a floor control for throttle (think there call big foot or something like that) do you still use you original control box for neutral forward and reverse.?

yes, that cable does not get touched. you will probably need another cable cause the floor mount is a little longer distance then the control box. for example, on the 2100 br, a 16 ft cable is ideal for the hot foot:thumb:

I just went from foot throttle, old boat, to standard, new boat, and couldn't be happier.
While it is a nice to have both hands on the wheel for high rpm action I didn't like the foot peddle for cruising, docking, departing.
The idle rpm just isn't sufficient for such things. Slow, slow, slow. So you basically have to be seated at all times.
Would be nice to have both but don't think it's possible.
If you have hydraulic steering and aren't going around at WOT the whole time
you should reconsider. IMHO
Happy boating to you.

Thanks for all this info.
I have, or about to have a mx15 I am about to restore.
I have been doing lots of reading and this boat seems to have a love hate relationship with people.
Lots of handling issues, setup issues, I like everyone want my cake and eat it to meaning I want a fast boat but also good handling, good for family, skiing bla bla bla.
Actually this is going to be my personal boat and I want fast.
I only have a 1978 115 long shaft for it but want to maximize the setup and hope to hit 60mph. Ya I know.
Going to restore the boat to be as light as possible, all other seats but mine will be designed to be removable, lol small gas tank lol at least one of them will be small. I think jack plate don`t work on these boats (plus they a heavy, that’s a no no) so will have to extend the transom height for multiple heights ex. Have a 2.5 in extension and 4 in extension to get the motor up.
I don`t think I would have much luck changing this motor to a short shaft. They don`t seen to ever be up for sale. Short shafts that is , not the hole motor.
Can`t afford to replace this motor.
The money put into this boat has to be in the boat.
Any mod I do I will have to get Viper`s approval, that’s if he is willing.

Me, too. I could probably tolerate it on a sterndrive boat, but on an outboard the throttle pressure is just too high for an extended voyage, i.e. more than 15 minutes, as you have to throttle multiple carbs and the timing mechanism on an outboard, as opposed to just one carb or throttle body on a car motor sterndrive.

My buddies Jet drive Baja has a foot throttle, and my Predictor had one when I bought it. I was quite happy when I took it out and hooked the cable back up to the shifter.

I love my foot trottle too! I have a Land & Sea foot trottle which is the only model that allows you to use either one. That does come in handy when around the docks or putting for extended periods. But with that said, the cable between the foot and handle throttle snapped a few yrs ago and I've just used as a foot throttle and STILL LOVE IT!

A combination unit would be sweet.

A NEW foot throttle with a NEW throttle cable is awesome. No sharp bends etc and mine is as smooth as glass, spring tension is relatively light but perfectly and safely returns to idle every time. I would NEVER go back to side throttle on my rig. I've been on fun runs and rallys and have been on it for 45 minutes or more and have never had a tired leg. To each is own but anything that runs 65+ and has a pad vee bottom should have a foot throttle IMO.

I can understand the complaints about the foot throttle but I'm pretty happy with mine. For me the pluses outweigh the minuses.

where can I find one of those land and sea dual action foot throttles I tried to google it and only found hot foot and I don't read anything about the option to go back to hand throttle

Theyre not all good. Basically you have to be sitting down all the time the boat is moving. Its also more difficult to pull a skier or tuber with one. Theyre great for going fast but for just about everything else a boat does, they kind of suck.

I kind of like sitting down while my boat is moving, guess I'm just a safety nerd that way. Have you ever actually tried skiing/tubing with a foot throttle? I had thought it would be an issue as well but 30 seconds in to my first time pulling a slalom skier I instantly realized how much easier it was to make small throttle adjustments with a peddle. And yes they are great for going fast, my first run over 80 the foot throttle went in before the next weekend.

Yes, I have tried pulling a skier . Skiers arent too bad as you are maintaining a constant speed going in one direction . Where its more of a chore is pulling a tuber in circles.
Its impossible to maintain an off idle troll speed while fishing with a foot pedal and docking a boat by yourself is a pain too. For a go fast only boat I like foot pedals . For an all around boat theyre not so great.
