" For Sale" 1980 Checkmate Enchanter

I spoke to the gentleman selling the boat. He would not let me view the boat because I am from out of town. I am a very serious buyer looking for a very similar boat to purchase (WITH CASH IN HAND). He would not entertain the idea of me purchasing the boat only a few hundred miles away. Currently there are several checkmate owners in our group who are very passionate about them. Unfortunately this one will not be added to our group for whatever reason. Hopefully the seller realizes that the checkmate name is not state wide and there is a whole country of people that want to own and operate these boats. I understand they were built in Ohio but they need to travel further for people to enjoy. If you are willing to sell your prize boat that we all admire and respect it should be offered to all of us.

Well I guess im out coming from az:poke:

I dont understand why you would post this on a forum filled with members from all over the country. I believe we even have quite a few members over seas in a different continent??? Season winding down, thought you needed to sell?? :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

My father is the man you spoke to about the sale, so hearing about this urked me just a bit. Believe me, this family has been into checkmates since before I was even born. There's a reason why the Checkmate brand is all I know, and all I or my father would ever buy. I dont know or understand your reasons for only letting locals have a shot at your boat, but if you consider selling to this particular out of towner that beautiful enchanter you have will be taken care of and remain beautiful.

I sold my Checkmate Persuader to a person in Oklahoma. I sold my Hydrostream Virage ZT to a guy in Alaska. Alaska! I've been to New York twice for Hydrostreams, brought one back. Bought my Pulsare from Wisconsin.
Moral of the story: don't turn down people from out of state, quite often they are the only REAL buyer you may find.

It seems there are some here that are puzzled and even annoyed that I was hoping to sell my boat more locally. I would think that would be my perogative. It doesn't make me a bad guy. I have no agenda against someone from another state other than Ohio. Really? I have absolutely nothing against the gentleman from Philadelphia but somehow it seems it was taken that way. I personally would not drive a long distance to buy something unless I knew 100% it was as advertized. People who sell things tend to claim there piece is excellent condition. I've learned several times that isn't the case. So, staying somewhat local is the way I've always handled buying things. And again, I was hoping to sell more locally.
However, since the firestorm I have called the gentleman from Philadelphia and talked to him at length and told him everything I could about my boat. Last night I sent him a whole lot of pics of the boat. Since most of the pics are a few years old I offered to take new pics if he wanted me to do that. Bottom line, I would hope that he would love the boat as much as I do. This boat doesn't look the way it does by accident. I doubt anyone could take better care than I have. I would hate for him to drive that far and be even a little disappointed. Apparently some would feel that's his problem. I don't feel that way.
Thanks to all that offered advice and tried to be helpful.

Long distance sales

I've driven from Maryland to Michigan to buy a boat. Since I moved to SC 10 years ago, I have driven Missouri and Tennessee to buy boats. To guys who are passionate about boats, distance rarely enters into the equation.

Best of luck with the Enchanter. My brother-in-law has owned one for 19 years.

This boat is now SOLD! A great guy and his son came up from N. Carolina to check it out and take it home with them. It will now have a new home in the Lake Norman area. Plenty of room for them to enjoy this wonderful boat. Thanks to all that were helpful with your suggestions.:bigthumb:

Congratulations Cyclone! Someone is getting a beautiful Checkmate. See those out of state folks are good to deal with. Plus, it will be great to see another awesome Checkmate on my home lake.

Agreed that is a beautiful checkmate.......

On another note.....hey SCT, lake Norman is where I'm bringing my Vision for it's new home next year {or maybe this fall}---- I'm moving to Clayton in a couple months ---- didn't know that's where you run.... I guess I should start a thread inquiring about the Lake Norman area.

I believe Clayton is over around Raleigh, which would be a 3 hr drive from Norman. We live on the very south west corner of the lake in Denver, NC. Jaja (mark) lives on the lake, weedo (jw's brother lives close) and the infamous Big Red lives just north of here. I can show you around the lake when you arrive. Would love to see your beautiful Vision in person!
