80.3 in the Pulsare

Glad to hear it runs! 85 in a bow rider with a little old 250 yammy is hauling the mail my friend!!

Now call Hydro Tec and start ordering parts for that beast and start making them 300's feel real bad!! :poke:

Yes man I don't know if more parts are in the budget this year but they respond really well to cutting .050" off the heads. The motor runs and looks like new with a little polish up!

Glad to hear you all are happy with her! Have been eagerly waiting for this post to show up!!

Kushog,

When you have it set back that far, do you find that it tends to want to blow out just after coming up on plane? Also are you going to try to come to the Muskoka Checkmate Rally this year?

Funny enough I have found it blows out less getting on plane the more set back I have. It will go on plane without blowing out at all if I don't lean on it too hard. Yes I am going to try to make it this year for sure!

That's interesting; thanks for the information. I can't really speak to the lesser setback.

I find when I roll on it works fine. However, if you were say pulling a slalom skier out of the water with 4 people in the boat, I have to give it more gas and if I'm not careful walking the line, it will break loose and sink

I would say if it does that with the motor buried you may have to use a dedicated ski prop on it. Can't say I've ever tried a deep water start with four aboard.

Haven't had time to string it out alone with the little tune up I gave it but ran 83.5 with four aboard and a full tank of fuel. One thing I can say does suffer with a bunch of set back is rough water, ran great in a 1' windy chop but man boat wakes send the bow to the moon... I think a sandbag or two in the bow would tame it for rougher water though.

Those are pretty impressive numbers. I should get you to help set up my boat up.

2nd yr with it

2004 merc 225 efi

2006 Checkmate 2000 pulsare BR 8 inch set back hydrolic jack plate

25 pitch prop

Right around the corner on Kennisis Lake

Lol is that boat red? Did it come from Kushog by chance?

No but I did look at that one and took it for a test ride on your lake.

This one is white and maroon/red with checkmate horse on front.

sorry don't have pics on this computer.

Well the first I would say is I don't believe you can get the engine high enough with a single plate. You generally need a set back bracket with a jackplate on the back of that. If the motor is low they are practically undriveable at top speed. What lower unit do you have and what prop?

Speaking as someone who can't get their engine high enough (yet?), I would agree with this. Also when I had my 10" CMC jack on, because of the angle of the transom, by the time the motor was back 10 inches, it was already ~4 inches lower the water. When the motor is low, anything around about 75 seems to be... interesting to drive

Interesting like driving on marbles, frickin chine walkin' sob. These boats IMO just don't work without lwp and cone at or above pad. Mine is 27" from tip of cone to pad, 1 3/4" above.

Good to know someone else feels the same way. I'll measure the max height I can get mine to when I'm up there this weekend and the distance back from the pad, just for reference

Might as well go with their 4 inch bracket set. It sounds like that hull likes more setback than mine.

I guess the other option is a setback bracket with the Jackplate attached to it.

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I too will take some measurements first.

Choose your size :

In order to effectively run that high you should have either a sport master lower or a cone lower.

If the 04 EFI set up is the same as my 99 you can get a 4 butterfly intake from a 250, a 250 fuel computer, an ignition computer from a 300 Pro Max and a set of reeds and pick l up some ponies. A set of 250xB heads or having your heads done by a place like Simon Motorsports will pick you up some too.
