2800SX Outboard/Twin Merc 225's

I scratching my head on this one. $20K is less than most would pay for a 21' Pulsare...I'm shocked no one on our site has stepped up to the pump to buy my boat...:(

Too much boat for me or I would. I’m stuck at 21 ft. If the other twin 25-28ft OB owners did not already have their boats, I’m sure a few would have jumped on this one. It’s a good deal.

I would have jumped on it sooner, but got too deep into the restore of my 251 with Demag's help over the last 2 years. Now that I have it back running well, I'm sticking with it for the medium term - unless I win the big one!

Believe me, the twin OB crew in the north east have spoken about road trips for Jup's boat on many an occasion!

GLWS Jup.

After reading this I feel like I had to post. I drove 1700 mikes and spent $400 in diesel to look at this boat. I asked many questions about the boat including if there were any cracks chips or anything else that I should be concerned about the boat. I was assured the hull was sound. Well in I knew in the first five minutes I would not be buying the boat. The transom has a very large crack that can be seen from the back side, as well as a crack that can be seen from inside the boat. There is a bolt hole missing from where it was previously rigged. And the splash well has a crack from one side to the other just under a piece of angle on top of the transom. Also the cap of the boat and the bottom of the boat don’t line up and I could stick my finger between the two.(I assume because the transom is being squeezed together) also for the boat being completely redone interior wise appon lifting the rear seat the plywood for the set is very soft.
None of this was disclosed as if it was I would have not made the long trip.
I only bring this up to save the next guy the time and money before driving down and being disappointed.
I tried to upload some photos not sure if this link works or not.

First of all, I've been running the boat in the exact same condition as when I bought the boat from Hemibee 6 years ago. What this poster is talking about is the gelcoat from the original triple rigging. Where the holes were filled and gelcoated over from the original tripple motors, the gelcoat has popped out on a few of them. There is a gelcoat crack on one of those holes on the port side (it's about 4" verticle and just the gelcoat due to the gelcoat filling popping out). There is no crack in the splashwell. The original steel plates that sandwhich the transom lip are still in place. The seat box itself is the factory original seat box that has been recovered. There is no wet rot in the box. It's the same wood used in all checkmates of the era. The boat is 34 years old and is not perfect. For $20K there is a lot of boat with many upgrades for the money. I forwarded my build threads to every one who has had interest in the boat to see what was done. Nothing has been hidden, it's in the threads which are highly detailed with many photos. In fact, my wife and I enjoyed the day on the boat after these people, who were very nice by the way, left for home. We ran the boat the entire day in the ocean from Jupiter to St Lucie inlets and had a blast. The guys that have all bought 28's and 25's have spent enormous amount of time and money bringing these boats back to life. Most of those boats have had the transom redone. There is little left to do on my boat. most of it is new as you guys are aware of; Floor, stringers, fuel tank, cabin, cockpit, cables, steering, etc. etc. Even if you decided to put a new transom in the boat (if what this poster states concerns you) you would still be way ahead of the game. I will shoot some more pictures and post them on this thread focusing on the transom.

Furthermore, this buyer thought there would be more room in the cockpit for his family. 4 adults is ok..5 adults and it's tight...a family with kids and parents, forget about it. For $20K there is a lot of boat for the money with many upgrades. I forwarded my build threads to every one who has had interest in the boat to see what was done. I also have newer white faced gages, solid lower motor mounts and new motor mount cages that will go with the boat.

I’m not trying to derail your sale, I’m just putting it out there that there is more to the boat than listed. I emailed you and asked if there were cracks or chips in the boat and asked for pictures. I received no pictures and you told me the hull was fine. I just think if you or anyone is listing something you should be forthcoming about any and all issues, Especially if you know someone is driving great distance to look at and purchase your item. After seeing what I saw I was very disappointed and it made for a long ride home. I don’t think it would be fair for someone else to make that drive and not know about the issues.
It’s a cool boat and I’m sure it’s a blast to drive, just in the future save potential buyers the disappointment by being upfront about the boat. I’m sure there are people who won’t mind the boat the way it is, I’m not that guy and it would have saved me time and money with one picture.

Bigbri, this is semi common w- some Checkmate models. I've seen the under sides of some corners packed w- silicon from the factory.

Good luck w- your search-

I can appreciate what you are saying. I did share many pictures. I don't have close up pictures of what you took..just what has been in my rebuild threads all these years. I did tell you that the boat is not perfect, it's 34+ years old. $20K is not chump change but it's still a great price for a 28' boat with twin Mercury 250EFI's on a tandam axle aluminum trailer. If the boat was perfect it would be twice that much! Sorry for your disappointment. I know it was a drive for you. Good luck with your search. There are many boats, including Checkmates, that are for sale. Finding a twin outboard for $20K is not going to be easy...but if I need a nice guitar in the future, I will call you!

SCT, I've had the same "shoe box" seam filled with silicon on Active Thunders, Velocitys, Checkmates, Scarabs, etc. It's fairly common to fill the void with silicon, 5200, plexus, etc. once the top deck and hull are joined.

Had a few guys inquire as to what I received for my boat. I don't mind sharing so you guys can get an idea of the value of these 28's. I received $15,600 in cash, a 2013 Can Am Commander (with only 944 miles, lift kit, custom wheels/tires, custom roof, stereo, etc.) and a brand new single axle steel trailer to tow the Can Am. I also kept my Bravo One FS28 props. The value of the Can Am and trailer is easily $8000.00, so in total $23,600.

I hate when people ask how much I paid or sold something for. None of their business as long as both parties are satisfied. :D Now if you don't mind helping someone with marketing or shopping, hats off to you.:bigthumb:
