    Did Checkmate ever make that 24' Cat outboard...1984???

    I worked at a marina that sold one of the first checkmate cats to leave the factory. The steering and the engines were rigged at Ocean Outboard in Merrick, Long Island, and the hull was sold out of O'Neill's Boatyard in East Rockaway, Long Island. The boat was rigged with twin 2.4 Mercurys...

    Sadly, at the present time I do not have a boat. My last summer with the boat, 1998, it was at Ocean Marine, next to door to Al Grover. The summer of 1997 it was at Bay Park Marina on a Hydro hoist.

    Who Makes The Best Outboards?

    It is amazing how OMC never was able to get its act together. I guess we have to hope that the Japanese can apply enough presure on Mercury so that Mercury continues to develope new products.

    how fast???

    Checkmate basically streched the bottom and added freeboard to the enchanter to create the Diplomat. They always ran faster than most people expected.
