March 2010's Boat of the Month Nominations!

BP The Bp's efi were 240 at the prop and a 7000 rev limit. The carb version was 225. I had the rev limiter module off the engine before I took it out of the crate! Although a great motor and my favorite alltime cowling, they did stick rings. (bridge got hot)

    NEW BECKMATE 350zt PICS

slogan Big Red-- I never understood that slogan from Baja either. It must have worked for them. Anyways, if you understood the slowgan you would not bash Baja's, er, Checkmates. Until then, "Speed Changes You."

    NEW BECKMATE 350zt PICS

Beckmate Big Red-- There's one thing you've failed to take into account in your attitude/opinion: "At Baja, 'Speed changes you.'"

    Coop! Switzer project boat:

Guy down the block completely stripped a 19' switzer, gutted the stringers, split the halves, and re-gelled it too. Now, the whole project is lying in the weeds this past 6 months or more. Cool boat.

    "Msmile's " Baja killer 115

Shameless, $1.53 here now if you look around. Save it for summer! BR-- Baja makes a checkmate that's really a Baja? Huh? Did I get that right? In the words of JFK: "Ich Bein Ein Bayliner!" (I am a Bayliner) Deep down, arn't we all?--or at least want to be?

Boatman- cubic inch to cubic inch you are correct. The two sroke makes power twice as often vs four stroke. The downfall of OB's in the past is they were relatively inefficient at cruise speeds, no longer. I think the 10% hp/fuel rule applies to 2 or 4 strokes @ WOT. BR--these are made-up...

    "Msmile's " Baja killer 115

BR-- As another said, I was referring to the new DI motors. A guy at our shop had a merc 150 2-stroke on a fishing boat. He switched to a new DI 150 and cut his fuel usage in half. He runs the exact same fishing route in Canada and knows his fuel usage to the pint. The old 300 ProMAx sucks fuel...

    "Msmile's " Baja killer 115

Boatman-- Any analogy carried far enough will break down. Your point is well taken. As for string-jerkers ruling...maybe. If you want really big hp and speed the car motor is the way to go. With the advent of the big hp/DI outboard checkmate and others are onto something. The new 24 C-Mate with...

    "Msmile's " Baja killer 115

boatman-- The boat was 747#, about the same weight as a C-mate predictor. I never listed the make of rig purposely, until inquiring minds wanted to know. My point was an H2x (with 2 engine upgrades-310-365-415) got beat by a lake boat with a 115. The make of the boat was irrelevant. Sorry if...

    "TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

BR-among other things, the thread is about how poorly made, poorly engineered, and slow the H2x was. Hence, how bad an idea it is for c-mate to copy/continue. As you may know, I respond to doubters. Cure: Don't doubt me. Hickory-- the ad opt box lists; misc opt, thread subsrip, and rate thread...

    "TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

The math would be: (The fastrike/intruder series had extra rpm over regular v4 115s) 6250x30=187500/gear ratio (2:1)=93750x.000947=88.78 before slip. A good dialed in outboard will run 8% slip or better. x.92=81.67. Not factoring in the double cup the numbers ring true. I had that set-up for a...

    "TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

Boatn70-- The H2x and the Hammer were running down the lake (which is fairly long -8 miles) neck and neck. No doubt in my mind they were racing. I ran my boat w/ the 115 between the two, they couldn't miss me. Probably 50 feet between boats. Raced between 1-2 miles. Would that scenario allow a...

    "TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

Craig-- We've got around 40 Baja's on this lake (Saylorville/ Des Moines) and almost all of them came from Dubuque. We call them 'Ozark bayliners'. I guess the Dubuque dealer and the Omaha Baja dealer had some turf wars over Des Moines. Dubuque won. There are probably 5 mates on our lake and...
