1969? 14' Checkmate owner

wanted to introduce myself to you guys, picked up a winter project today to restore. the Checkmates i think a 1969 which is the year of the merc 1000 on the back of it. Checkmate tag says the model is V141 and hull number is 1250. plan on repainting the ugly red paint that is on it and putting a new floor and seats in it along with making a over the windshield cockpit cover for it. Not new to boats or old vehicles but this is first checkmate I have owned. Restored 2 1960 Ford pickups and a 1962 16' Slick Craft Premier with a merc 700 on the back of that.

WELCOME!!

Not too many pre-70 mates here
Looks like you have a short shaft on that V141. I am gussing a 1000ss or a 1250?
Mate sure put some ugly reds on those boats. There is a lot of good info here to find and some good brochures in the gallery. Those came with emblems on the rear sides originally. I found them difficult to locate let alone find them in one piece. Great classic mate to own.

What size is that Ford motor 292 or 312. I used to have a tri power intake for one of them. Used to have a 57 F100 until my brother flipped it end over end.

Alan its a 292 in my F-100, plan on boring it .060 over and putting a cam and higher compression heads on it sometime soon to give it a little more power for when I pull the boats. Its a fun truck to drive and so is the F-250 4x4 I restored with a 239 Y Block in it. Ran the boat to test it and see what it would do, right now it has 21 pitch prop and I hit between 40-45 mph on speedo, going to take gps out with me soon. Carbs are full of junk from sitting for 3+ years but was a fun ride on lake mac, handles like a dream for being such a small boat. I never expected the motor to sit low enough that the upper exhaust ports would hit the water line but they do.

Tim:cheers

:welcome: You are definitely going to want to do something about your skeg, or what's left of it. It will make handling much easier and puts a little added protection for your prop.
