1970 Checkmate colors

No I am not bidding on it yet. I am waiting for him to email a pic of the emblem to me. I may jet up and look at it tomorrow nite. After that I will bid on it.

Yeah, I know. I am gonna hit it at the end and see where it goes. Makes no sense to start now and get a frenzy goin.

OKAY......the color for the MX15 is official.....Ice blue metallic(light aqua) with the white rallye stripe and white for the cockpit area sunburst effect. Interior will be white-not sure If I am doin buckets or back to backs yet. I am waitin for a silver metalflake steering wheel on ebay to set it all off. I will be goin through the 1350 shortie this week. I am thinkin black paint is all it needs so far. I had a Kiekhaffer water pressure gauge somewhere, but I can't find it now....I will need to buy one before I finish the boat. Floor will either be painted or aqua carpet.....1970 Holesclaw trailer will be white with aqua stripes. I still need a cool lookin grab handle, maybe one from a 76 delta 88....lol

I will be needin some old checkmate rubrail insert in black. I will have to measure what i have to see how much. I am filling in the light holes and cleat holes for a cleaner look. Am I forgetting anything besides pics?

I can send em back, never used any of it.

There was 2 different sizes and I spent another $30 on ebay to get more to match and FINALLY got them on the 12th, only to find out that those flakes were a different size and tint than either size you sent me....A red set of seats came up on ebay, I asked a question about them, ready to bid then bang! 6 hrs later the numbnutt ended the listing at a bid of $75. This color scheme will work unless somethin here doesn't work. My seats have 14 and 27 days left on them, The flake is coming, base is here. I am still trying to find some aqua carpet. Velveteen is just too hard to spray. I hope I don't have to change again......

Okay.....so I bought the emblems off the Checkmate on ebay, one is not in good shape, but the other is perfect. The 70 Playmate emblem is junk so he says. The 1350 shortie is running good, another $400 well spent on ebay. Trim works well. I may be sprayin the gelcoat if the flake arrives in time.......2 weeks waitin. Still waitin for a Kikhaffer water PSI gauge. I also scored a newer 140 short mid for a 115 CDI powerhead that will go on as soon as I find an 83-89 115 on ebay to donate it's parts. The sweptback skeg lower unit shaft is gettin cut down for $100. The nosecone with low water P/U will be a nice addition to the combo I am going to be puttin on it. Ebay had a shortie lower for this combo till the shaft is cut for hte newer lower. Still debatin on wether to put teal/white buckets up front and have a rear bench setup upholstered or opt for the cheapie overton's 149.95 each back to back seat setup. Aqua carpet is goin in if I can find the right tint. Ebay has a 5X6 foot hunk right now. I may do the floor in white and carpet the area round the seat.

Need a copy of the "knight" on the dash at the end of the rallye stripe, though.

Am I missin anything?

Undecided.........

So I am sittin here with 6 different colors of flake and never thought it would be this tough to arrive at a color. I have flipped several schemes around in my head, but nothin seems to strike me right. The Ice blue with white interior is nice, but the merc is black with red bands....red flake would be nice, but red or black seats are hard to find.....I have been witin 3 days to shoot this thing and still don't know......Cmon guys, help me out! I will shut up when it's in color.....Maybe I can get it nominated for November's boat of the month at this pace....LOL

i like the light blue, considering it myself for my project. light colors are easier on body parts that touch them. I am considering something like light blue overall with flake and a solid med/bright blue strip. having the Knight and Checkmate air brushed into the finish then clear gel over that. the stripe could be the same color as the engine color.

I am partial to the blue also. She expressed a LOT of interest in that color. I was going with a white base, but they shipped me a quart instead of a gallon of white and I am waiting for more, but getting impatient to spray this.

John Spaeth said he has a 1970 that he is going to splash the fiberglass seats off it. I will be changing over to those if I keep the boat long enough. I( think the MX15 is probably gonna be hers

I am tossed between a few different Hydrostreams. I have a Vector and now a Vking. I will most likely be getting a Vulture in a couple weeks. Whichever ones she doesn't like will go on the block.

Guess what I did tonight!!

Finally decided the colors....wow-long time huh?
I got the red flake for the rallye stripe shot ronight. I will be shooting the Black/red/silver mixed flakethis weekend as soon as the red sets up nice and I get it wetsanded. It will have red back to back seats in it. The 1500XS will go on as soon as I finish putting it back together. I bought a new retro ariguide 80mph speedo. Still waitin for a primo tach to pop up on ebay. I am still tryin to decide on controls. Would like to find a nice forward reverse lever and I will have a hotfoot in it. I am tryin to find a tank for it since I didn't fill in the hole. I have a nice gas fill for it (shiny is nice!!) I am doing a removable stem-type bow light. Still looking for the perfect stern light setup. I will be doing a red and black combo carpet scheme. I am also looking for a metal flake steering wheel. Passed on a couple red ones on ebay when I wasn't sure what color I wanted to finish it in.

I am tossing between two trailers I have, but will get the deck on and lift the boat onto them to see which trailer looks the best under it. Then I will be blasting the trailer and painting it to match the boat. Just in time for winter.....LMAO

Sounds like a cool project.

My hats off to you for spending so much time and money to keep it retro.

Keep up the good work.

A tach just went on ebay.....still waitin on an answer on the steering wheel, but I have a couple wheels that will look okay on it.
I need a couple 13" 4 lug cragars or slotted mags for the trailer. I have been looking all summer but no luck.

I haven't posted pics because of the time span, but I think I can start next week. I am no whiz on the pc so I will have to get a hosting site or somethin.

I couldn't stand it....

I shot the deck tonight. Taped off the stripe and shot the black-it is lighter than I thought it would be so I shot more red flake-similar to the other one I have. Shot 2 coats of clear on it, ran out of Acetone so I will run to town tomorrow morning and shoot 2 more coats of clear on it. I ran out of the black combo flake-I think it is small flake cause it didn't cover as well as the red did. I will get some solid black and mix a combo for the hull. I used a full pound of the black combo. I have used 8 ounces of the red and feel I covered more with the red than the black combo. Anyway. It will set a few days and I will wetsand it and buff it. Then I can set it aside and concentrate on the bottom. I still didn't get a pic-camera was in the other vehicle....I will get a few maybe after I wetsand and it shines better.

some 1970 colors

Can't speak to whether these were std. colors but I was in a group that had black, silver blue, dark blue, silver, white, green yuk, bronze, some were misted with other colors @ silver/blk silver/blue, at this time It seemed the factory would do whatever you wanted( like today)
I had a 71 15 w/1350 short, it was a little faster than the 70 but it was more squirley and had a tendency to blow over if you got a little bow high, I know this cause I did it.
There was one that was silver misted with black, the owner and dealer built a custom bench seat (back to back) for it. it was the slickest 15 I have ever seen.
