Hey Will,

Hope you are getting ready for another great summer. Would you be able to give me some details on what you all did to prep your motor for paint? I have mine apart to fix the power head and thought it would be a perfect chance to paint mine.

1. Did you sand it down by hand, did you use a liquid paint stripper?

2. Did you get fully down to bare metal before you sprayed the primer?

3. How is your paint holding up?

Any other words of wisdom you may be able to share with me regarding painting your outboard?

Thanks in advance!

I completely stripped it down to bare metal . I used a real good degreaser on it and power washed it down . Clean it with laquer thinner before it was primered . I sprayed the etching primer on it than a solid coat of epoxy primer . Paint it still holding up great and still looks like Brand new .

I haven't had the boat out at all yet this year. I had to take it up to the lake house and that's 200 miles away and haven't had the time to get back up this year et because work has been so crazy . But I will probably be up there for the 4th of july weekend .

Can you tell me about the Seacast and how it is holding up please?
On other forums it doesn't seem to be a popular choice.
Great job and I know you are enjoying the results.

I hope it's holding up well, but could you possibly post up what materials you used for the paint? The reason I ask is because it's a common issue of delamination when Epoxy is used over an etch primer. If anyone is painting bare metal, Epoxy is all that is needed for best adhesion and corrosion protection. The topcoats can be applied as the tech sheets say per product. I hope there's no issues for ya though!
