1978 predictor repower and prop size

Yeah u are right! I'm looking on ebay for the hydro system looks like bout 600.00 for a mid grade system. And solid mounts are around 100.00....guess the old saying applys to the water. ( speed =$$$ how fast do ya wanna go) ....
 
You arent going to low to mid 70's in a predictor with a stock '86 150. Nor would you want to without a steering upgrade. Low 60's. 65 GPS with the current on a cold day Too much of a prop and you just won't get into your power range. You can bolt a 26 pitch prop to it and it will turn but if you cant get over 4800 RPM its not doing you any good.

How fast that hull will go is directly related to how much you have it on the pad. You need a prop with adequate bow lift and upgraded steering to get any decent speed out of it...or power the hell out of it and plow through the water but even then you would have an incredibly hard time hitting the high 70's. Mid 60's ( real GPS mid 60's. Not water pitot speedo mid 60's ) are easy enough to do with the enticer/predictor hull but 70's and a good stout 2.4 or 2.5 150 are going to be difficult without a steering change to keep it driveable and safe. I've bolted a 225 3.0 and a 2.5 260 to mine with the original single cable and an aftermarket cable and ran it up to mid 70's with the motor almost all the way down and plowed through to the high 70's but as soon as trim was increased it was a motor flopping nightmare. With 3 different 150's on there mid 60's was as fast as it would safely go. I bolted hydraulics and solid motor mounts and I scold myself for not having done it earlier.

With decent steering and good mounts you could easily hit 70's with a 150. Ive run 93 MPH with a pretty much stock 225 pro max and the only thing stopping it from going faster is the rev limiter. Its not the motor that is making it go fast and its certainly not the drivers skill. Its the steering. OK the drivers wallet helps.
 
2.0L XR2, set up properly, i can get mid 70's here is a quick video, not wide open, but you can see how aired out this boat gets without being over trimmed..

Even if you had a nominal 7% prop slip ( best that prop might ever hope to do ) with a 2:1 lower at 6000 you would be going 69 MPH. I ran a 2.0/150 fat block for quite some time. Throw some good metal caged rod bearings, some decent reeds, late big bore WMV's and 26 CC heads with premium gas and you can easily wind it up to 7K for the better part of all day long..
 
meant to type that i was running in the 6000's, but clearly now I remember why I so rarely post anymore...

If you meant to type something and you type something else it doesnt come off as very sincere. I ran a 2.0 for quite some time and have a pretty good idea. You can make them run like you have with hydraulic steering and a jack plate but its not the norm. Theres only so much you can do with piston port 2.0's.

Ive been dragging this boat around for 33 years and have tried every setup known to man and I am an overly anal engineer that records and tests everything. Not trying to be a dick ( maybe I don't have to try :) ) but I have a really good idea what works and doesnt work with these.

I'll be out on the river smoking jet skiers tomorrow.
 
We have a Vmate I with a stock 150 running a 26 pitch Ron Hill chopper, the boat runs 74 MPH GPS with dual cable steering 5-1/2 manual jack plate, my son kalugs22, had a Predictor with a mildly modded 2.4 with 4 cylinders at 140 psi, another at 120, and another at 100, and dual cable steering 5-1/2 inches of setback 82 MPH GPS.
