1978 Predictor

I have a cmc hydraulic plate on mine and I think the set back is about the same. What is a good engine height to have? I still need to measure this and see where I am at, but at a glance it seems to be a little low. Also was wondering what prop gives the best performance, I would be totally satisfied with 60, but 55 just doesnt feel right. lol

That's a sharp looking boat, I like it! My jackeplate is also CMC, could be the same model. I'm running a 23 pitch 3 blade Spinelli prop. RPMs are running a little over five grand topped out. I've set the centerline of my prop just about even with the pad, when the plate is all the way up. There's a certain measurement that is supposed to be optimum. I can't remember what it is, but I'm sure another forum member can fill in the blanks for me. I"ve also installed a water pressure guage, wich I would recommend if you start playing with engine height. If you raise it any further you will have to look into closing up the water pickups in your lower unit so you arn't sucking air, or installing a low water pickup. Otherwise you risk burning out your motor. Here's a look at my rebuild if you are interesed in seeing what your boat looks like completely dissected.

Wow, Adambomb, that is a great thread. Thanks for sharing the info. I do have the water pressure gauge already installed. I will get some more pics today of the back of the boat.

Went to the river yesterday after moving the motor up 2" and changing out the foot oil. Was excited to see what a difference the movement of the motor would make. Got the boat into the river, turn the key, had to adjust the choke, and went to turn the key again, this time nothing happened. Key switch went dead on me! Tinkered with it for an hour and realized I didn't have the tools needed to try anything exciting, so back home I went. Such a let down, but I guess that is how it goes with old electronics and motor controls.

new v mate owner

cool thread guys. I just got a 75 V Mate I w, 115 Johnson. Needs some tlc and from looking at some of the boats here, I think I found the right place. The hull on this boat is clean, deck needs to be brightened up. Needs new vinyl on seats.. ect.. Engine is clean and tight.. Will share pick as the job progresses.
