1979 exciter restoration part 2

Flooring

Thnx it was stupid expensive but worth it in the end very hard to instal though it's super thick and hard to shape. It took a full eight hours to instal and we had to come up with a plan where it steps up in the front that's why we put the wood there just would not match up properly.

Have A Question

Had boat out this weekend was not running the best ran some sea foam through it made it better but not great. Lots of hesitation and clearing of cylinders to get up on step will go to 5000 rpm then a have to really play with it to get 5600 if i keep the throttle pinned it's worse if i pull back a bit it runs cleaner (Runing 21 pitch high five prop). Also very hard on gas i have an hour meter in it and ran 1hr to 25 gallons of gas since then this is what i have done
-Compression check all cylinders at 120psi (Complete rebuild just done over winter)
-Removed all carbs and cleaning again
-Did leak down test (All good)
-This winter all new fuel lines, bulb, water separator, fuel pump diaphragm kit, thermostats, poppet valve and water pump.
-Checked timing (26 @ WOT)
-all new plugs
If carb cleaning does not work going to look at spark boxes Any thought's from anyone
Thanks Marc
FYI Motor is 1988 200 no oil injection serial#OC101745

Could also be the stator going out. Mine did something similar on my old Starflite with an 88 200 Merc. It ended up being the stator going out and taking the black ignition boxes with it.

As Corey mentioned, check the stator. I don't see where you replaced plug wires, they are expensive for that motor but good to make sure you have good spark. Check your wires going to the coils, I had 2 coil signal wires a that had deteriorated and were pulling apart. Those motors are also intended (according to my 88 Mercury owners manual for the 88 200 that was originally on my starflite) that the motor should be run on premium unleaded or regular leaded fuel. I don't think that's your issue but I was surprised to read that. Good luck, hope you get it figured out. Boat looks awesome!

Thanks for the ideas going to put carbs back on tonight and if that does not work going to look in to stator,Switch boxes, coils and wires. More than likely will just replace all parts then i know what i have with everything else all new or rebuilt.
Is there anyone on here that has same set up as my boat looking for a good top end prop thinking of a laser II 24 pitch not sure if i can pull that much pitch or not (Nobody around here has props to try)
Running high five 21 pitch now for skiing and tubing
