This Motor runs awesome. Its on the back of my 1982 Checkmate 18.5' Exciter and pushes it near 60 mph. Ive had the motor for 3 years and havent had a single thing go wrong. The Trim unit does not leak down at all. Check out these recent video's of me running the motor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra1Dg5hrxKc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxe8GtsZrXo Only reason for selling is to upgrade to a 175. Give me a call . 224-430-7004 Andy

Thats a pretty good price. It should sell fast.

The only thing I would suggest is upgrading to a 2.4 or 2.5l 200, 225etc cuz a 175 isnt going to be that much diffrent than the 150 at all.

Nice Video BTW! lookin good.

Actually i believe it will be a world of difference. Im looking at an 86 2.4 litre 175 mariner. Thats an actual prop horsepower of 175. compared to my 1982 150 hp Merc where the power was taken at the crank. So really my 150 only puts out 125 HP. So ill be increasing power by 50 at the prop. And if your right ill have a good base to work off. Thanks for your suggestions.

Another reason would be im only rated for 185 and cops are thick where i boat. Lake County Sherif, McHenry County Sherif, and the U.S. Coast Gaurd all patrol my waters.

Good price for the motor but I'm confused. I thought that after 1980 is when they changed the hp ratings to prop shaft hp which is why I bought an 83 150?

Changed after 83-84 i believe whatever year they dicontinued the 225 as it became a 200. None the less great price on your motor, buy a 200 and put 175 stickers.

Prior to 1983 there was no standard for the point at which the horsepower of an engine was measured. Some outboard manufacturers were declaring their HP at the flywheel, others at the prop. If comparing two motors that were rated at different points there could be substancial performance difference between two motors carrying the same rating. I believe that Mercury switched to Propshaft rating around 1980. Manufacturers got together to standardize the rating system and in 1983 along came ICOMIA Standard 28-83 (Section 3).

That 150hp motor is a lot closer to 150 than 125hp.
