1986 diplomat

This is the first thread I opened and it is exactly what I was going to ask.
'84 Diplomat has 140 Rude but I was thinking about trying a 6" setback that I have and install a jack plate. I have a line on a 1989 200 HP Johnson. All of what you are talking about is what I wanted to know too.

I did some running on the weekend and lifted to about 4 to 5" below the pad (hard to measure in the lake, above cav plate @ 3 1/2") and had the boat running 60 gps. The motor seems to be not running 100% sothe guy that I spoke about above is going to trouble shoot engine on Thursday. The guy who has raced for 35 years said I am driving it perfectly and the motor is just limiting me now. He thinks that 70MPH should be easily reached.

i would think with a chopper you would want to be more like 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the pad even a trophy seems to do better up higher than you posted

did you ever get to do any more testing befor the cold set in?

what did you find on the motor?

I have gotten that paint/rock gaurd off the bottom of the boat and tried putting in the lake and ran for a minute or so on the launch and died. I have allreasdy tried a new fuel line and ball cleaned the tank screan and checked the check valve and put new plugs and still willonly run for a minute or two. MY nest test is to drain and clean carbs and run directly from claen gas can with loots of injector cleaner and hapoe that it is nothing more than a fuel related issue. If any body ha any ideas let me know.

I found the problem and it was a bad check valve on the tank and it was starving for fuel, when I ran it out af a 5 gallon can it pured like a kitten. Tonight I am going to knock the ball out of the vale and try to clean the the screen on the pick up in the tank.
