1988 Skimate

Vandalizer

Well-known member
I'm looking at possibly getting a Skimate- 20' with a 200 Johnson. Does anyone know much about these boats? Is it just a slightly modified version of an Enchanter?
It may just be from an odd angle, but the brochure picture almost makes it look like it has less deadrise than typical Checks. Anyone know whether this is the case? He says he does 65 with a 20p @ 6000 with no jackplate, so I'm thinking there's at least 5 mph more in her.
The gear ratio must be between 1.6-1.75 on an '88 200 Johnson??

The cockpit is waaaay bigger on the skimate. So it will take more to get it aired out.

It is deff. a cool hull. I think it would make a great cruiser. It only weighs 1175#. thats less than a Starflite.

Kinda hard to see that the cockpit is bigger in the '87 brochure, the '88 is much easier. I was looking at the '87 because that's what the seller says it is, but listed '88 here cuz NADA doesn't list a Skimate for '87. I do like it even better after seeing the larger cockpit!
The 200 supposedly tips the scales at 450# (:eyecrazy:), so either 8 or 10" of setback should be plenty to let that hull see some air!!

The cockpit is much much bigger. I saw one at an auction once and I could not belive how big it was. But I did like how the hull looked. I think it will take a lot of set back to get one to fly.

are there any pics of this boat?

There was a red one on ebay for the longest time. It was pretty hit and they wanted like 4 grand.

I don't have detailed pictures, but this one sounds like it's been taken care of.

Hey Kip or Coop... do you know anything about these hulls? If it's specifically made for skiing it might not be suited well to high speed... it looks like it sits more level in the water than other mates, but the brochure pictures are from high angles so it's hard to tell.
