1988 starflight hull performance?

Thanks again for all the input. I am boating in the Washington DC. Area and Baltimore Md. We have about 3 weeks left and then it will be to cold to enjoy. I like to go for long weekends to new places also.

Well I have to say that with all the help here I have been able to get what I think is about 95% of the performance out of my setup without spending a lot of money. The 23p Trophy I was able trade runs great @ 5900 rpm at 69.7 GPS just can’t get 70 mph but that’s fine I don’t want to go any faster than that in this boat it feels like it’s not touching the water very much. The chine walk is minimal with the 23p compared to the 25p and not really that noticeable after it gets up to speed. It only walks a little around 63 and then smoothes out. Hole shot is very good only takes about 2 boat lengths and it’s on top. Mid range acceleration will pull you back a bit and feels strong. I am trying to get somewhere where I can take some pictures of it in action. Thanks again for all that had input. Maybe next year will get to meet some of you on the river. I plan to take some long weekends and get to some new places.

No not yet. I plan to become a supporting member soon. Then I will be able to post them. But first I have to take some. I do have some of it in the driveway but not on the water yet. Hoping for one more good weekend. Today was really cold only 52 deg. But felt like 20 Deg.

Well we had a very nice weekend and on Sunday we were out on the water again. 65 Deg. And sunny. Not many left. I am still fine tuning this boat. I have raised the motor to about 3 5/8” below the V. that is as high as I can go and still have water pressure. Tried the motor at 3 3/8 but water pressure not present all the time it comes and goes. I have the two top holes plugged and it is good at the present setting of 3 5/8” I was able to barrow a 24p Trophy prop and run it. I only had a 150 RPM drop witch I thought was low but picked up almost 2 mph. So I am glad to say I now have a 70+ MPH. boat. The more I drive it the better it seems to get. Or I am just getting used to it, I don’t know. I don’t think there is anything else I can do. But it runs great and a lot of fun. Hope to meet some of the people here next summer. Nice folks

Thats fantastic! I am sure you are learning how to drive it. i bet with this same setup you will be able to gain another MPH or so with more seat time. :bigthumb:

I am sure of that. But also may be out of time for this year. I am going to wait another week or so before putting it away for the year.

If you want to eliminate all your chine walk, I would install a pair of Smart Tabs. My boat was not drivable past half throttle before installing them. They also help in cornering, and being able to stay on plane at a lower speed. They most amazing thing I found they do is eliminate the pounding the boat takes in waves. I found once I had the tabs on my rough water ride was surprisingly smooth.
Some people actually enjoy the "on the edge" feel that chine walking gives you, so it is really a personal preference, but, I love what the Smart Tabs have done to the ride quality of my boat.:thumb:

Are these adjustable remotely or manually? I would to look at them is there a web sight that I can read and look at pic's of them. Sounds like a good idea.

These tabs are automatic!! They use a hydraulic cylinder similar to those you find holding up a hatch on a car. They are all the way down at idle(so you can get out of the hole faster)and gradually move up with the pressure of water hitting them(flush with bottom at speed). They allow you to stay on plane at a slower speed. They should word on your boat. Even if you have a padded boat if you mount them so they are at the same level as the bottom of your pad then they will still come into effect as soon as your boat wants to start to chine walk. The best bet is to call the manufacturer and explain what you are trying to do, and they will be sure to help you(they were VERY helpful with my situation!!). Good Luck. I'm sure you will be very happy with your purchase.:thumb:

I don't know if you already posted pix of those auto tabs or not ( SLOOOOW dial up here ) but if you haven't can you post some up? Would be very interested in seeing them- sounds like a nice addition to the longer Starflights/ Enchanters/ and Entertainer hulls.

I looked at that. They could be mounted closer to the inside just outside the cutout of the transom and work giving some flat area to balance on. I have ask a dealer/instaler to send me instructions for install on this boat and see where they put them. I do agree that 5" inside of the edge of the back would absolutely be out of the water.

I almost agree. Now that the boat is set up nicely I only have on spot at 67mph that it chine walks a little but very manageable. It goes away as the boat reaches top speed. Would be nice if it did not do it at all as passengers at that moment would feel better. With 3 people in the boat it does not do it at all and a little with two and with just me you have to steer a little but it still goes away at 70mph and up. Just looking it over as a option.
