I'm having a sample sent to me from these folks at tacomarine {any company with the name Taco has got to be good :drool:}

This just maybe what I'm looking for --- rigid / it's simple / reasonably flat / can be ordered black / one piece {no insert}

Will find out when I get the sample ----
Definately will not use if it's not black all the way through.

Also, if I use this type {ie..one piece no insert} then I need to figure how to have black screw heads.

Thanks GF, the good stuff is never cheap is it......
However the link you gave me is obviously the way to go if TacoMarine doesn't supply with color matched screws...
 
Ive used it alot..It is black all the way thru.if you buy it in the coil it comes with the stainless black screws.You can also get it in 12 foot pieces with the screw holes or without.and it is very tough stuff.I have also painted stainless screws first with some acid etch primer then the finish color.

One thing to consider, if this is the rail that comes in a roll, I read on someones thread that they were a bit disappointed that it puckered between screws when it got out in the sun. Just a thought.

Today was at the shop going over some measures and angles for the custom glass layup on the forward deck.
The glass work is to fill in the 14 wide countersunk center that goes the length of the forward deck and also to fill in the opening of the hatch window.
Forgot to have the camera with me today but above is a previous pic of the window and countersunk area in question.
I don't want to just lay a flat filler in the center as Checkmate did in their next year model {the 1989 Vision does have it filled} ---- so I've been figuring different fills such as slightly rounded like a TransAm style hood or maybe a peaked crease going the length of the deck like a Corvette hood.
 
Has anybody here ever powder coated exhaust tips/pipes.

I'm wondering how the temperature changes on the pipes effect powder coating.
 
I have seen pipes/headers powder coated many times. The exterior pipe of the water jacket doesn't get that hot. Tips would withstand it but with as much as the lake water/exhaust water that gets dried on the tips, I think it would always be dirty and the aggressive cleaning needed to remove it would be what damages it. I could be proven wrong there though...just my thoughts.

That's good thinking GF --- I suppose if I wipe them down after every use {as I do with the chrome finish} then maybe the "dried" exhaust water won't become an issue.
I guess if I decide to do it, it'll be an expensive lesson --- I'll keep a pair of chrome ones on hand as a quick replacement back up.
 
Yea, I spent hours polishing my stainless ones once. After a little jaunt down the river, I couldn't tell I ever did anything to clean them.
 
Ive done powder and ceramic coating on headers/snowmobile pipes before...always worked fine until the snow and salt got to it. Powder coat is awesome until it gets one chip in it....all quickly downhill after that usually. Ceramic coat seems to be much tougher. I wonder if they can color that these days? Been a while since I dealt with it. It is an amazingly durable, heat/fire resistant, and nice looking coating.

Ooooo, ceramic ---- that is a really kool idea :cool:
 
A little progress with the layup filler work today on the forward deck.
Settled on having it slightly domed all the way to just before the nav lite where it will gradually flatten down to be consistant with the nose.
Lots and lots of sanding / grinding....:(

Also went over some possible "hood" graphics ---- Possibly thinking of a "very simple" tribal design such as......

Gonna wait til the base paint is complete then I will decide if I want graphics and/or what kind.
Also still not sure yet about pin stripes --- maybe the original three line style -- or maybe nothing at all --- also gonna wait for the base paint to be completed before deciding.
 
Looking great! As far as graphics go, I like the ones on the red CM best...but that's me. With the lines of that Vision being kind of flat/sharp, Im thinking a domed raised are would look a little out of place. Can you pull of something to the __/''''''''''''\__ profile there and have it just be a flat taper down to the bow with the sides just decreasing in height? That would just take a lot of filler but look neat. It is hard to see what hard lines you have in that pic. I am assuming you have something going like a rounded hump.
