1989 Exciter

I finally got a chance to take some decent pictures of a freshly washed Checkmate. This is our 1989 exciter model that we purchased in the fall of 2003.Originally it had a 225 carburetted Mercury, but last summer, the ignitor unit failed and a new one could not be obtained. We purchased a newer Merc. EFI and though it is stickered with 200 hp. decals it is a 225 hp. the previous owner was a bass fisherman. So now we have to start prop testing all over.

Matt, i've seen this boat in person, and pristine doesn't come close to describing the condition of this boat. it's awsome!

Hey I would love to see more pictures of this boat or anyone that has an Exciter. I have not seen much here on this forum with anyone that has one. I am really considering buying a 79 Exciter this weekend and would love to see pictures of anyone else that has one. Also, the current boat has a 150hp Merc and I was thinking of going with a 200hp or 225 hp Merc. On this boat, can anyone give me an idea of what the top speed would be with the new set up? Also, if anyone has a used 200 or 225 motor for sale let me know. There is a guy in Florida that can sell me a rebuilt 96' 200 2.5 Merc for $3,500 and I was not sure if this was too much. I have another guy locally that has a 200 Merc, but I am waiting for him to give me a price.
