" For Sale" 1990 Checkmate Maxum 281

Precision

Member
Well it's been fun but it is now time that I put my 'mate in here. With how much the wife and I like larger lakes we need a larger boat for more comfort. So I am looking to sell my '90 Maxum 281. The engine, transom assembly and drive were all freshened this spring and are ready to make this boat move. (Engine Specs below)

The interior in the cockpit was just redone three seasons ago and is still in great shape. The boat is equiped with a Hummingbird GPS, moring cover, porta potty, full sound system with subs, and dual batteries with switch.

Engine: 505CI

Eagle 4340 stroker crank
Eagle H-Beam Rods
JE SRP Flat Top Pistons
Cleveite 77 main and Rod Barings
088 casting rectangle port heads
Upgraded valves
Crane Hydraulic Roller
Crane Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Isky Springs
Crower keepers and retainers
ARP Screw-in Studs
Crane Marine Gold 1.7 Roller Rockers
MSD ignition
MSD marine distributer
Kodiak equal length exhaust manifolds
Imco Risers
B&M 250 Blower just rebuild with new Teflon seals.

The boat is setting on a 2002 Eagle trailer tandem axle with new bearings and seals at the end of last summer.

These pictures were taken just before I replaced the drive line.

Asking $22,000.00 for Boat and Trailer, I have over $12K in the recent engine and drive work. Will also consider a trade plus $$ for a 38 Fountain Lighting or 42 Fountain Lightning with staggered twins. Please call three zero nine five three one seven two nine one with any questions or to schedule a showing.

Thanks for your time.

How much HP is this motor makingt? What have you seen for top speed? Have the stringers, floor or transom been replaced or worked on?

The motor should be about 650HP, we had it on the dyno to tune it and about the time that we had timing and fuel dialed in the water brake on the engine builders dyno started malfunctioning giving erratic readings. This motor is defiantly 750 capable, but I went for the smaller pulley on the blower to save on fuel and ware and tear.

Top speed? I haven't played with proping with the new motor. It will do 65 with the current prop but it has a bit more in it (at least another 10 MPH). I would have probably picked out a killer prop already, but with a new baby and safety as part of the reason we are moving up to a larger hull I just haven't invested my self into it.

With regard to the stringers, floor and transom. The stringers and transom are solid I did notice a small spot in right behind the drivers seat about a week ago so take that for what it is worth.

To be completely honest I was considering re powering the boat with a stock 502 Mag MPI and selling the blower motor separately.

Let me know your thought or if your interested, otherwise this thing is going under the knife in the next few days.

$18,000 OBO

Re powered with Gen V 454. Need to sell to invest in my business. Open to reasonable offers.

Is it still for sale? Where are you located? What speed is it running with the 454 and is it a Mercruiser motor or other- what HP?

Yes it is still for sale and is located in the Bloomington-Normal, Illinois area.

The runs 52 currently with the less than ideal prop. With a good prop it cold pick up a little more speed.

PM you number and I can answer any questions you may have.

Your getting close to the cash that I would pay, IF I had the cash to buy such a great looking boat.

I do hope you find a new home for it soon.
