1995 235 persuader..

Hi,

Just wanted to get any thoughts from the experts. I found a 1995 persuader, 454 fuel injected, 280 hours, very clean. Can't find anything wrong with it what so ever. With the exception of I haven't been for a test run yet. I'm seriously considering making an offer even though it's the end of the season here in new england. Comes with a trailer. What do you guys think it's real value is? Nada says from 15-17k ish. That seems atually a little low for a boat this size even though it's 12 years old.

Is it a good model of a checkmate?

Currently I have a 19' maxum 1900sr bow rider with a 350. Good little family boat but am ready to take another baby step towards bigger and better.

It's being offered for $19,000. Any advice?

Remember NADA hits Checkmate's really low on resale price. They base thier numbers from a mathmatical formula, not off true resale! Checkmate's are custom boats and the options are not always found either. Last year I sold a really clean 218 Persuader 1995 for 17k with a small block. I think if you are looking to move up it seems like a fair deal, not a steal, but a great boat. Low ball them on the price like everyone does me this time of year, who knows you might get it. It beats paying the interest all winter to have it sit there. Good Luck!

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought too. Any 24' mid 90's boat with a big block in excellent condition seems to be high teens to low 20's. So even though 19k doesn't seem like an absolute STEAL, it doesn't seem outragious either. I think I'm going to make an offer of 15 or 16k and go from there. Not sure if I'd pay more than 16k at this time of year.

Assuming sea trials go well tomorrow, we settled on 17.5K. I kind of wanted it for 17, but it is in such clean condition, I figured what's 500.

Ok, I must report. I tried out the 95 235 persuader today. It ran great, it sounded great, it looked great, but boy it was a scarry freakin' ride. Two things maybe contributing to this, but still. No trim tabs, and it had a 5 blad prop on it. It just did not feel safe. Seemed like it wanted to walk all over the water and felt like the steering was loose.

Now, my experience with bigger faster boats is VERY limitted, that's why i brought my friend who's a mechanic and has a 33' scarab with twin 7.4's for reassurance. His words were....'this is scarriest boat i've been in over 60mph'. That said, I did not make the purchase.

Can anyone shed any light on why it felt so weird possibly? I just didn't want to purchase somehting and then try and make it feel like i wanted it too. Who knows, maybe that wasn't possible. would love some opinions. Thanks.
