1995 Johnson V4 115 hp

I'm working on a 1995 Johnson V4 115 hp model number is J115TLEOR(sisters boat). The issues are hard to crank, the prime bulb collaping and when she puts the motor in gear will shut off. I'm thinking a bad hose, primer bulb and fuel pump going bad. Also once running got a continuous alarm. Oh the VRO is disconnected. The carbs looked to be recently rebuilt. The items I've done so far are:

New fuel line from the engine back to the water/fuel separator.
Cleaned/dumped the water/fuel separator filter.

Items I'll do/check:

Replace th fuel line from the tank to the water/fuel separator and new prime bulb. I've found the fuel pump repair kit for the $145.00 so I'm doing the simple things to start with.

I've got the motor running, I can shut it off crank back up etc. The prime bulb isn't collasping so far with those few items.

My question is would the continuous alarm going off after the motor warms up be a bad fuel pump? The motor is pissing fine so I don't think it's the over heating alarm.

Any thoughts?

The continuous alarm will only go off for a overheat issue, even though water is coming out the telltale it could be time for a impeller. Does it do it in the water too or just on the hose? If the water coming from the hose is very cold the t-stat won't open and cause the alarm to go off, we see that all the time here in the spring and fall when the water is cold, every OMC I've had did it.

Could be a bad t-stat, worst case is its been over heated already and the reason you can't keep it running is its fried, but let's hope not.

Heads get hot to touch? Maybe a leaky head gasket.have you looked at the plugs? I had my alarm going off and the vent on my portable tank was gettin sucked back in and the tank wouldnt vent

The alarm goes off on the hose and it started at the lake Fathers Day weekend. What to look for after pulling the plugs? The powerhead is hot to touch!!!

It should not be very hot.look for a clean plug or water on plugs plug might look like brand new if water is getting in there.you may luck out and just have a weeping head gasket.

Trace the tell-tale hose back and it should attach to the T-stats.

Did you check the gas tank vent? If it is plugged, it could cause the primer bulb to collapse.

I would also check the water pump impeller. If is missing pieces, it could be causing a blockage somewhere. If the blockage is in the adapter plate, you will still have a strong tell-tale, as they work independent of each other.

mine is a 86,there on top of the upper cylinders.would go out and take a picture for you but im crippled up.should see two small hoses going from housings.one to each bank.

I'll check the vent, haven't done that yet. I gotta go to the auto parts store and get more gas hose since I'm replacing from the tank to the fuel/water separator.

Just let the motor run for a good 5 minutes, no alarm the water coming out of the pisser is warm not hot. The powerhead you can put your hand on without burning them. The sun was out earlier baking my butt so maybe that's why the powerhead was to hot to touch. I must of flushed something out.

part no 77- hose should get you there, if not i will hobble out to get a picture for you! I will stand by. You might want to be the good brother and do the waterpump for her.

Ah it's at the bottom, I seen that yesterday but it goes to this retangular box. What's the part number for the T-stats? I should go ahead and replace the water pumps well.:D
