200 gt johnson lower unit?

Look on ebay or craigslist for a good used unit.

OK so I found a few possible units but the morons that are selling them make me question plunking down some serious cash for something I can't FEEL first, plus most can't even tell me what length the driveshaft is.

Does anyone rebuild these things anymore?

Also, is there any sort of sealing washer or packing material on the water pump pipe and the housing? Mine has none, which is probably the reason I tore it apart in the first place - no tattler. Unfortunately the water pump looks just fine, but it looks like it was reassembled by a retard. The exhaust gasket was crushed half-in on one side.

Vacation at the end of this month. Recommendations?

Your local shop should be able to rebuild it. That would be the cheapest way to go. Chance are you damaged the pinion gear. You can also visit www.obrparts.com they sell remanufactured units. ALot of dealers do business with this company with very little problems.

You sure got that right. I got a lower unit off ebay, guy claimed it was from an '89 and after I got it I spent some time researching parts diagrams online and find out this style was only used from '76 to '78 (and is not compatible with anything else), a$#hole that sold it refuses to discuss the matter, and ebay's "buyer protection" seems to be a joke.

My 2 cents would be to take it to a good marine mechanic in your area, you'll probably spend a little more than what you could get a used one for on ebay, but at least you'll know it's in good shape.

intrested in selling that obsolete lower,I sure would love to turn my lefty to a righty, but mine is working well in reverse...lol

Wow I didn't read that part, so this gearcase you bought has a funky looking shift rod that has a screwed on adaptor to attach to the shift arm, as well it shift backwards, down is forward? Then it is a hyromechanical from 76-78.

Caddman, if you need one I have one that is like new, bought it from a dealer auction, it was on a 200 that blew up in 77 and sat on the rack ever since
